Revis Signs with NYJ

Fifth lowest real dollars spent in the NFL in recent years and one of the richest people in the world as our owner and we can't sign one if the three (?) best defensive players in the world? Sickening

Crazy Numbers! Well I guess Banner Night Is Pats VS Jets Thurs.Nite Home Opener.

I don't think the sky is falling just yet. Actually, I'm handling this much much better than I thought.

I agree that we HAVE to improve our secondary now, but I believe that we will still be AFC's best

Where does this come from? Butler makes one interception on a goal line, admittedly at a very important time, and now he can replace Revis? lol. I don't know what Butler can do. Maybe he can't do much of anything, or maybe he'll be really good. I definitely don't know right now just because he read one play.
I guess you missed the entire second half of the SB

Guys I'm all for letting things play out, but can we stop with the "Butler replaces Revis" stuff? The guy made a great play, but that doesn't make him the stunt double of probably the greatest CB to play.

I hope we do something to improve our secondary. But paying Revis (or anyone) like that wasn't going to help our team with our other issues.

According to the reports, this is basically over a difference of $4m guaranteed, so the Patriots were quite willing to "overpay".

This

It's a 3 year deal for 48 with less than the 40 guaranteed he was asking for.

Disappointing the pats drew a line in the sand and it was over just a few million.

Brady only has a couple of seasons left so why not go for another ring?

When they were winning the Super Bowls they had a dominant secondary. Unless bill has some game plan the secondaries going to be a train wreck this season. god forbid the Patriots slightly over pay for one of the best corners of all time.

If this was over a paltry few million guaranteed, I'm pretty mad at the Patriots. Can't be mad at Revis, who's doing what's right for his career, but he was the difference-maker for the Super Bowl this year.

The real question is if the pats covered that 4 mil, does the jets just increase by 4 again.

Giving all these numbers, the pats were best just picking up the option and going from there.

okay, we pay the Revis $5m to play for the Jets, but we get a 3rd round compensatory pick out of it in 2016.

They declined an option

Pats went from top 3 defense in Afc to garbage in one day. Utterly shocking and I hope krafty Bob can explain this one away...perhaps (and I hope) they know there would be exceptional compensation r.e. tampering shohld Regis sign w nyj....super bowl play and all I don't think Butler's ready to be a #1 corner....

Guys relax. We paid revis 12 mil and won a Super Bowl. The jets are gonna pay over 100mil over his career and win nothing. This is why we are the patriots and they are well whatever the hell they are. He was a one year plan and we both won. BB is gonna improve the offense and get as pass rush. We always have a chance to win an SB. With the money the jets gave him it was not meant to be. BB will just have to find a way to win with a team that has different skills than last year like he always does.

The way Butler was playing when they put him into the SuperBowl had him looking like a young Revis.

Potential there.

So what if he's gone, we won the superbowl so he fulfilled his purpose.

Plan B time.......

It's clear Saints are in fire sale mode and CB Keenan Lewis has asked for a guaranteed contract or to be released. From film study this guy is the real deal. Trade a 3rd round pick to NO and get Lewis is my plan B. Money is pretty cheap.

I think Plan B may be building up the front seven more in a way to get pressure on the QB more to protect the secondary.

According to reports, this was supposedly about the nature of the guarantees. I imagine the Pats at the very least wanted to split his salary if he landed on the IR.
