@AdamSchefter: NFL notified teams today that it expects this year's salary cap to be between $140 and $143 million, at least $1.5M higher than projected.

"If I use the $142 million as the league cap, the Patriots would then be over the cap by $7,863,993."

I'm guessing a Revis extension would reduce that number considerably, yes?

dont the pats have cap room they can move into next year as well as they didnt spend to the cap?

Using Miguel's estimated cap # of -7.863,933:

http://patscap.com/revis.html

Revis 2015 cap hit: 25 million

cutting Revis: 15 million saved
extending/signing Revis: 10-15 million saved (if the first year cap hit was 10 million, we could save 15 million by extending Revis)

How about Hernandez cap relief ? Maybe I am mistaken but I thought they took a hit of $3m or so that was never resolved? Maybe I missed that.

$1.5 million extra could be enough to squeeze in someone like Vereen?

Wilfork is a goner if it's that low. Saves 7m. Extendng Revis can save you 10-15m, depending on terms. Enough to keep McCourty and smaller parts. Branch and Casillas.

Have to restructure Mayo, Amendola, Arrington. Can prob extend Vollmer for a year to save some too. New deal for Solder will lower 2015 cap hit.

I don't understand Miguel's $15 million savings. Revis' current cap hit of $25M consists of $5 milllion in old bonus amortization plus $20 million in new money. If they cut him, they don't pay the $20 million in new money. That's a cap savings of $20 million ($25 million minus $20 million) with a dead money cap hit of $5 million.

Just fixed that $15 million. Should be $20 million.

My numbers include the prior-year carryover and a projection for the LTBE/NLTBE adjustment.

Be sure to spell it out - Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder need this, lest they tamper with the rules that could change the game a little more than 1-2 psi on footballs. Meanwhile, Cowboy Hatriots are strangely silent on Jones' 'honest mistake'

Already including a credit for Hernandez in my numbers.

Give it to me simple...does this help or hurt us with Revis and others ect

From what I understand, Miguel has pretty much pegged this number (give or take a million or two) for his projected cap number of 2015. I believe that he has used the exact same range of 140-142m, and has been doing so for quite some time now.

Therefore, I'm missing what the point of the whole thread is--aside from the possibility that it may end up 1 million dollars higher than originally projected? Then again, it could end up 1 million dollars less just as well.

Either way, Revis will have a major effect on things whether that's from a cut or an extension, but right now Miguel has the team in the hole as of this current minute.

It hurts the Pats keeping others but not Revis. But it hurts every team evenly.

They can still keep most of their players but now will have to make 1 more depth cut then they would have otherwise from my previous projections.

7 over.

Extend Revis - save 11
Extend Solder - save 3
Restructure Wilfork - save 4
Restructure Mayo - save 3
Restructure Amendola - save 3
Restructure/Extend Browner - save 2
Restructure Vollmer - save 2

That give you 20 million to play with at you get rid of the 7 you are over. You can also create a little more if need be.

You can sign Revis/McCourty and a number of other players that are FAs.
