Have seen posts that contend that he is an UFA this year.

1.) He is signed through the 2016 season. Will be a RFA in the 2017 offseason, an UFA in the 2018 offseason.
2.) His contract per the CBA cannot be changed at all until after the 2015 season
3.) 2015 salary is $510,000

And about $170K for being on the SB-winning team.

And a bit more from the performance pool.

NVM.. someone already posted the playoff figure which to be exact is 165K for this particular run.

Every player, not just Butler, got paid the 165K for the playoff run:)

IF people recognize him.

He was on NFL Total Access going around on the street as a NFL Network reporter and asking people what they thought of the last play in the Superbowl and getting all kinds of responses like "It was awesome" "I love Malcolm Butler for that" "What a great play by Malcom" "Glad he got that truck" etc. And then he'd tell them he is Malcolm Butler and people would be shocked. Bah!

For the record, that was in Los Angeles.

Read a couple of articles in SI while waiting for my car to be fixed. I didn't know that Butler's team nickname is "Scrappy". They gave him the name early in the season because he scraps and fights for every ball in practice and this goes back to OTA's, when he got noticed by guys like TFB.

I hope that all this new fame and attention does not go to his head and that he continues to be "Scrappy" next year.

One thing I appreciate about the Patriots is that a guy like this can show up and make the team regardless of his status and level of name recognition. I don't think he would have gotten that chance on a lot of teams.

I also like the fact that UDFA's can make the Patriots even over drafted players. This year we let go 3 drafted players: Halapio, Thomas, Gallon and kept Malcolm Butler!

A great tribute to the coaches to practice what they preach about a meritocracy.

Your point is well taken. I would note that the patriots have always been willing to cut a 5th, 6th or 7th rounder if they couldn't show their worth. And UDFA's have always had a shot to show that they could beat out low level draftees or veterans.

Thank You Malcolm, Love you man, words can't describe my gratefulness to you my friend...

Not that I would deny Malcolm Butler anything, but I thought the performance pool was based on snaps played. If so, he wouldn't get that much of a bump. Though he would deserve every penny and then some.

It's based on snaps played divided by salary cap hit.
