And now pft takes a moment to acknowledge science AKA backpedals

Remember that Gregg Doyel hayseed last week from the Indy Star going on and on about how arrogant and stuck up New Englanders are about their "higher intelligence"?

Yeah.

If this is "it" - although I doubt they'd be able to prove it - if it were admitted to I'd be curious if there would be any punishment. From the rules I've read, it would clearly be within the rules but also clearly trying to get around them.

You mean like Aaron Rodgers?

if it was proven.....i bet they would punish them for violating the spirit of the rule....if not the letter of it......and to cover their own ass to avoid massive embarrassment

The phrase "deliberate action" in the NFL press release is a clue that points in that direction. It certainly could encompass any kind of sauna theory.

Enough of this crap.

Fine Brady and Rodgers $25,000 each and let's get on with the Super Bowl.

So your saying there's a chance ..... for temp to play a part in this o_O

Yeah, really.

I didn't get the impression that Florio was "backpedaling" in the least.

All he did was come up with another theory as to how we cheated.

The league has multiple steps here:

1. Get the basic story.
2. Check whether they believe the Pats are telling the truth.
3. Decide whether or not to penalize the Pats.
4. Decide whether or not to change the rules.

They won't even be through #1 until they've talked with Brady.

This probably is what we've been doing. Still cheating and we'll have to stop, but impossible for the NFL to prove most likely. Either gonna be a 25,000 fine, like Marshawn Lynch got for gold cleats, or nothing at all. Kraft's good relationship with the NFL and other owners may be helpful as well.
How is that cheating? What in that example would violate any rule?

Brady has denied any knowledge of manipulation of the footballs. Why would you fine him and taint his legacy. Just to move in or are you deciding he is a liar?

What conditions the balls were filled under would not be a violation.
By the way I don't think it has anything to do with filling them but where they stored them.

Creationist media, led by Ron Borges.

Hello? Peter King? We have a scrumptious dinner waiting for you.

Enough of this crap.

The balls were at 12.5 PSI when the refs checked them.

At some point in time the balls went down in PSI after that time.

If Brady had nothing to do with the reduction in PSI, why should be be fined?

The NFL has a flawed operational process. Period.

Why should he pay a fine for a change when he had no involvement? Just so you can feel better?

@shemessy you are better than that.

This is worth fighting for.

That was my take as well.

Of course, back in the day this type of stuff was considered gamesmanship. Now it is the most horrible form of cheating imaginable.

Not to make excuses for the Patriots. But if this is what they did, I can't see how they can get in trouble for it (well, I can because the league wants to or even needs to drop the hammer on them, but they shouldn't be able to in this circumstance). Yes, you can argue it is sneaky and underhanded and treads the line, but I defy anyone to explain how it breaks the rules as they are written. Nowhere in the rules book does it say the balls have to a certain PSI at a certain temperature or that the balls need to be filled and stored at certain room temperature. They just need to be within a certain PSI level at inspection.

It is a loophole in the rule to gain an advantage, but it doesn't violate the letter of the law as it is written. At best you can say it violates the spirit of the law.

“The NFL rules are very much ambiguous really because they’re not specifying a temperature. They’re just specifying a pressure, and temperature makes all the difference in the world about how you make that measurement. Us science geeks picked up on it.”.

Bingo! That's says it all right there. IF this is what the Pats did, then no penalty should come out of it. This is simply another way the Pats found a "loophole" in a rule and exploited it. If the NFL doesn't like it, change the rule.

And if any penalty comes from the NFL, then the Pats should appeal it. The balls were filled within the range the rule states.

I wonder if PFT has gotten an rumblings from the NFL investigation and is trying to get ahead of the story?
