We need THREE wide receivers we can count on for 2015. We now have THREE wide receivers we can count on.

nuff said.

We are a fine stable of folks to compete for the 4th and 5th roster spots. They have spent lots of time on the bench, Practice Squad, IR and on the inactive list.

1. Edelman
2. Lafell
3. Amendola (if he takes paycut)
4. Greene (rookie)
5. Dobson

A group like that would be solid.

Odd thread, danny is good but I like him a lot more as a #4. A more reliable #3 would be ideal in the mold of Jabar Gaffney.

Is it your position that our receivers would less solid if Danny was paid $1M a year more than we might think that he is "worth"?

BTW, "counting" on the patriots to draft a receiver that will help as a rookie is failed endeavor, with long history.

The Pats are one of the two teams still playing the 2014 season, so I think I'll focus on that for now..

You're probably right about Danny. It's nice having a WR3 who understands the offense. I wonder if BB will keep him if he doesn't take a paycut though. If he doesn't agree to a paycut and we aren't strapped for cash then I guess its fine if he stays.

Also, yes, using a top 100 pick on a WR could be another waste. However, Greene just screams Patriot (route runner that can play in the slot and outside, leader, etc). He's my main draft binky as of now.

I still think we need a physical possession WR on the outside that we can add from FA or the draft. There will be some intriguing free agents out there.

Maybe we can add CLE's Josh Gordon and he and Blount can be our own "reformed stoners squad"? :D

Tim Wright?

I'm serious about mixing him into the discussion. However, I'll acknowledge that Gronk, Wright and 2 reliable WRs would be thin from a depth perspective.

As for Amendola -- he and Edelman are good quasi-slot receivers, like Troy Brown but unlike the purer slot receiver Wes Welker. The question is how much it's worth to have a second such guy on a team whose best receiver is a tight end.

The Patriots currently have 2 WRs they can count on. I agree that they need a 3rd.

It is 2015 and we're in the Super Bowl with the wideouts we have. I'll worry about this in two weeks from today, at the earliest.;)

premature thread but:

id like for Wright to improve his blocking to be able to take over hoo-mans roster spot...and id like for dobson to be the #2 receiver next year after edelman, followed by LaFell....after them three it can be tyms, boyce, or amendola

i think amendola is making a very strong case for making the team next year this postseason

Basically we need what Dobson was supposed to be. Perhaps he might get it right and be that next year.. but I wouldn't rely on it.

Without Amendola we don't beat the Ravens. He is not an awful #3. I d instead like more OL depth and a better 3rd down back.

Kind of wish he wasn't IRd too soon, I am sure AD has been healthy for a few weeks now, would have been nice to have him.

I think BB might see WR's as sort of a diminishing returns prospect. After the first few million to get a 1,000-1200 yard receiver, you're looking at tripling your price for a 1500+ yard receiver. How much more are you getting from them? Especially considering that some of those yards will come at the expense of other guys. Looking at the bottom line with passing yards, there's just not a big difference in a team that is stacked with guys like Denver, or Indy, in the day, vs the Patriots post Moss. Brady is still throwing for as many yards, often more then all those guys with cap wrapped up in receivers.

What are the results? Not a single top receiver is in the SB this year, last year D. Thomas was the only one, and he lost.

I'm not saying I wouldn't want one. Partly because I'd like to see Brady get a chance to compete statistically with guys with much better weapons. BB obviously invested in Moss, but Moss was a rare talent, I don't see any Moss available to the Pats.

BB has never invested in a first round WR in 15 years, and only has like 3 out of 40 2nd rounders as WRs. People want to say, BB can't draft WRs. Sure, but he doesn't even try. I bet there isn't a single team who has invested less in the position.

He's basically told us what he thinks they're worth, and it's not much. Look in the bargain bin, because that's our next guy.

lets wait two weeks before whining about the offseason

You guys need to let Dobson go. lol
It isn't happening.
