Gronk unanimous All-Pro

Shambles? Really?

Certainly over the past two games, yes. There were a handful of games where it's been pretty brutal.

“There are some things with the Patriots that concern me, offensive line play is no. 1. For probably two-and-a-half, three quarters of that game, the Patriots offensive line got absolutely steamrolled. Not just getting physically beat, but I’m talking steamrolled; guys on their back, getting thrown around. It wasn’t a good performance. There have been struggles across that line, and they’ve made average defenses look good the last few weeks. Listen, the Jets front-seven is pretty good, but the coverage in that back end is horrible. [Patriots] should have played better against that defense. I know they usually give them trouble, but that’s a Jets defense that’s given up a lot of points this season. That offensive line did not play well yesterday.”

I certainly plan on talking about a lot more than just McCourty. I'm interested in having a good discussion on the talents and merits of all thing Patriots. If saying that McCourty was a good, but not great player this year makes me a detractor, then I guess I'm a detractor. He schematically played a position that is extremely hard to make a big impact. He was a prototypical Patriots player this year and just did his job. Unfortunately for him his job was lining up 15 yards off the LOS, taking a ten step drop in coverage, and breaking on a vertical route depending on his assignment. If you're not Ed Reed it's really hard to be an impact player as a cover 1 safety.

If we're talking about an All-Pro team, it's hard to argue McCourty against the guy who led the NFL in interceptions. If you find that ignore worthy then go ahead and ignore me.

2013 media: Jimmy Graham is unstoppable, the greatest Tight End today.
2014 media: Rob Gronkowski is unstoppable, unmatched production and the greatest Tight End, possible MVP.

Jerks.

You call that a complaint!

It was the combination of that and his other post in the McCourty contract thread where his bottom line point was Harmon could do just as good as McCourty for a fraction of the cost.

:D

In all seriousness, the storyline that Jimmy Graham had surpassed Rob Gronkowski was put forward in 2013. Few, if any reasoned or applied the freak injuries that Gronk sustained for this absurd phenomena.

I remember ESPN asking a question on twitter. If both TEs are healthy, which would you want on your team? F***** Jimmy Graham won by quite a few votes, and I was pretty pissed. It was ridiculous. I can only assume people didn't read the part where ESPN said, "HEALTHY."

You were emotionally upset about the results from an ESPN Twitter poll?

Really???????

C'mon. Take a breath, collect yourself and gain some calm perspective like this kid:

Even Phrein would take Jimmy Graham over Gronk. I can't understand it. What makes Gronk so elite is the fact that he can run block and hold his own against defensive tackles when @ 100% and I don't think his blocking is @ 100% right now. He can also go out and run routes while commanding double teams.

Detractors will say he's injury prone. I suppose there's some truth to it, players go low against him because he's so unstoppable. But if Pollard or Ward went after our ankles or knees the way they did. We'd suffer the same injury. So I can't call that injury prone even though Gronk needs to protect himself as players are going low against him.

Jimmy Graham can't block. Just look at the Saints vs Eagles playoff game. Benjamin Watson came on for Graham when they wanted to run the ball. Gronk never leaves the field.

Everytime someone wants this or that tight end or talk about how good this tight end is. My first question is, can he block?

I'm more interested in dynamic tight ends who can block and run routes. Like Heath Miller, Dwayne Allen, Jason Witten, Vernon Davis and any others that I'm not aware of.

To borrow from an article I read once, what makes GRONK so dangerous is that he can block, he can catch a pass, and he can do both in a single play.

I would go so far as to argue that the difference between GRONK and any other tight end in the NFL may be the biggest advantage any team in the NFL enjoys right now at any single position.

They're not jerks, just fatuous fickle fools.

What I found interesting is that during his presser, BB cited that while a vast majority of the teams- including the Pats have been playing in sub-defenses (we've known this for while here) the Pats see regular defenses (4 DBs) 50/50. The reason? Gronk.

Imagine how nice it would be if the Patriots had a third wide receiver, so that they could exploit that.
