Rex Ryan yells "F*** You" to head ref after game, suspension?

With less than 2 minutes to go, Rex Ryan may not have seen that Vick threw the ball at a Steeler. He ran up and swore at the head referee as soon as the yellow flag came out.

CBS turned off the head ref's microphone after Vick's obvious 15 yard penalty was announced, not realizing the flag was for two penalties, and there was a second 15 yard penalty coming for Rex Ryan's language. This resulted in a 3rd and 46 for the Jets, who gave up a TD to the Steelers after the punt.

Steaming for the remaining few minutes of the game, Rex waited until the game end to continue his tirade. Immediately after the head ref motioned the end of game with his arms, Ryan took off his sunglasses, turned towards the head ref, and yelled "F*** You" as he entered the field with his giant face on close-up. (There were no Jets or Steelers player in the direction he swore).

Should the NFL suspend a coach for crap like this?

no. It is an emotional game...@#$% happens

Suspend an NFL coach for using potty words? Really? This country is lost.

In this case would it really matter?

Please do not think this is vote of confidence in Rex. I hope the league does NOT suspend him. Think about it. :)

I think what Belichick did was slightly worse by grabbing the official. No fine to Rex IMO.

Yes he will be fined. Not suspended, but fined under the PC policy- he should also expect to hear from the FCC as well.

So Rex Ryan was pissed at the ref cause he was trying to lose?

I updated the original post with an image I made: http://i.imgur.com/27zeTmR.jpg

1) Belichick was different. He wanted to get the ref to explain his call at the end of the play. He was trying to get him to turn around instead of running off after the play that decided the outcome of the game 2 seconds prior.
2) In contrast, Ryan's Jets were leading by at least two scores almost the entire game and he had the entire game to accept his win.
3) His first win in 9 games, he should be happy.
4) The head referee called all the video reviews in favor of the Jets. So why hate him? Two major ones were very close and controversial and would have given the ball to Steelers twice, which could give Steelers the victory.
5) Finally, he was up by two scores and had 5 minutes after the 3rd and 46 to calm down.
6) His team committed 30 yards of unsportsmanlike penalties in one play. Before the next one started, he was trying to get a 3rd one with a different ref.
7) At the very end of the game, he mouthed off the words to the main referee with his fat head wearing U.S. Army colors and patterns on TV.

For all of these reasons, this time is very different than the other times coaches act disrespectful.

IMO you've been breaking into your parents' pot supply again.

BB obviously was touching the ref to get his attention / slow him down just to hold a conversation and was not intended as a physical altercation or personal attack.

Rex was obviously out-of-control; directing personal abuse towards the official.

While BB's action was a technical violation of the rules (no touching refs) that is normally violated all throughout every single game as players and refs (and coaches) maneuver in a confined space ; it could have easily been ignored by the NFL. .... Rex's action was a deliberate violation of the rules about abusing the refs that was aired on NATIONAL TV for all to see and committed by the guy who is supposed to be the ADULT IN THE ROOM on that team. But of course that will take OBVIOUS NFL DECISION AND FORETHOUGHT (that is, positive prejudice) for them to ignore it and make it go away. So, of course, in the go-to-hell regime that is exactly what will happen.

Rex will ascend to the podium today and make a feeble apology and mutter something about in the heat of the game or other such nonsense. All will make nice and everyone will live happily thereafter in New Jersey..

Roses and lollipops and whiskers on kittens...

I'd prefer he took the podium and continued his tirade. In fact, he should challenge the officials to throw flags on all the Jets players for the rest of the season.

Look, if you touch a referee like that in the middle of the game you get ejected, whether you are trying to get his attention or/are just angry with him. Players/coaches curse at the officials all the time.

After those two penalties, Ryan was not deterred. He continued to throw f-words at the officials. He kept saying, "is this a f***ing joke?" to the sideline official. Steaming for the remaining few minutes of the game, Rex waited until the end of the game to yell again at the head ref who gave him the original penalty.

Once the head referee motioned the end of game with his arms, Ryan took off his sunglasses, turned towards the head ref, and yelled "F*** You" as he entered the field with his fat face on close-up.

Should the NFL suspend a coach for crap like this? They can embarrass themselves all they want while wearing the Jets uniform, that is expected. But don't wear U.S. military colors and patterns while acting like that on television.

There will be a fine, for sure. This isn't the first time Ryan has dropped F-Bombs to officials...and even fans.

I personally quite enjoy it...he's imploding. He's done after this year. I'm going to enjoy watching that loud mouth's demise.

If refs never get fined for the ******** they pull, coaches shouldn't get suspended for f-bombing them.

I was a little worried that this win would make a significant difference in the Jets' mental state and thus increase their chances against the Pats later this year. But seeing this relieves me of that altogether. They just won a huge game against a quality opponent and are still acting like a neighborhood bully who will never get over their inferiority complex.

Silly me.

Got to say, that steelers safety is lucky he didn't land on his head for that stunt.
