Dion Jordan gets another suspension

That's the big issue with trading up for hyped players out of college. For every J.J. Watt, who retrospectively everyone would trade up for, you have multiple Dion Jordans.

How can you be confident with which of the two you end up beforehand ?

Could you imagine if the Patriots went up and got someone at #3 and he was a non-factor his rookie year and then suspended like this his 2nd year.

Would never hear the end of it

Jordan has been a colossol bust thus far.

I'd surprised if he isn't out of the league in the next 5 years.

Especially when the Dolphins could have improved their OL with one of Lane Johnson, Jonathan Cooper, Chance Warmack or D.J. Fluker. Top list management by the Dolphins.

Plenty of people were sharpening their pitchforks over the Hightower pick last year, and he's actually been pretty decent, albeit miscast until this year. So... yeah, it would be a ****storm.

I loved Jordan coming out of college. I saw him as Jamie Collins before Jamie Collins. Never considered him the #3 overall pick or anything close to him, but I had him pegged as a late 1st round/2nd round talent. Manx got me onto Collins, who I think has a better overall game, but I still think Jordan has a ton of talent. Miami misused him completely as a rookie trying to bulk him up and turn him into a line player, rather than using him in space where he excels (as BB did with Collins, who many people wanted to put on the line). The substance issues are another matter entirely - I had no clue of any issues there when he was coming out.

Jordan may in fact be a bust, but I still think he was a good prospect, just not at #3. The line between success and bust in the NFL can be very thin.

Shank and Borges would have pup tents at the mere thought.

Some of the smartest people are in the NFL....

People often assume 100% of a draft pick's performance is based on them. But coaching, system, and opportunities also play a significant part.

Jordan obviously has some personal issues, but I also wonder how much that dysfunctional locker room last season also contributed to his lackadaisical self-control. Maybe with different veterans, this turns out differently.

So many things factor in:

- Getting over-drafted, creating higher expectations and more pressure, which a prospect may not be able to handle
- Being changed to a full time defensive lineman, when his skill set and physique weren't best suited for that role
- Maturity to learn a different role
- Commitment and work ethic to learn a different role
- Intelligence to learn a different role
- Off-field issues
- Team environment and mentoring
- Coaching
- Change in team leadership (a new GM who didn't draft him, and may feel very differently about him)

Among others. It's hard to say exactly where the fault lies. Certainly Jordan's performance and his substance issues have been disappointing. The further out a prospect goes from being drafted without showing signs of developing, the less the chance that he will break through - not impossible, but less and less likely.

Jordan faces an uphill battle at this point, but I think his odds would be better in a different environment, with a fresh start and lesser expectations.
