What is Tom's future?

I don't think that decision has been made at all.

Your guess is as good as mine and so I really can't argue with you, but it seems to me that Belichick wouldn't have used a number two if he thought Mallett was the guy. But you might be right since we're all just trying to read Bill Belichick's mind, which is kind of like trying to...well...read Bill Belichick's mind.

Don't know why people assume BB is going when Brady does.
A reasonable assumption in general, not so much when it's about BB? What would BB enjoy doing as much as what he's doing now? Like Steve Jobs or a number of former Heads of State, I expect he would miss running the show intensely, so I expect he would continue as long as he's able. The late Bill Walsh said he retired too early....I don't think BB will do that.

But why to people assume BB might leave when TB does? Great coaches and great QBs generally come together. Here is a partial list:
  • Lombardi/Starr
  • Shula/Griese
  • Landry/Staubach
  • Noll/Bradshaw
  • Walsh/Montana
  • Belichick/Brady

Some will cite great coaches that were not linked to a great quarterback...Gibbs, possibly Cowher and Parcells.

3. Brady Altruism
The Patriots’ second-round selection of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo made me immediately think about the extension that Tom Brady signed last year. Despite some reports that he “took less to help the team,” I noted that Brady actually received $3 million more than previously scheduled to earn in 2013 and 2014, with much better cash flow.

Next year, however, will tell the story of whether Brady made a sacrifice for the team. Brady is currently scheduled to play for $7 million, an absurdly low number for an A-list QB. If Brady is the starting quarterback for the Patriots a year from now and making $7 million, I will be thoroughly impressed (and surprised) by his altruism.

The Garoppolo selection brought a potentially different angle to this. I could see Tom Brady as the backup quarterback making $7 million in 2015 (or his scheduled $8 million in 2016 or $9 million in 2017). That, of course, would require that 1) Brady accept backup status, and 2) Garoppolo earn the starting job, though I find both of these possibilities unlikely.

I expect Brady’s contract will be upwardly adjusted next year rather than him playing for a fraction of what his peers will be making. Garoppolo’s entry into the mix, combined with the precipitous scheduled decrease in Brady’s contract next year, presents a Hmmm moment. Stay tuned.

Andrew Brandt of MMQB (formerly a Green Bay executive among other titles) chimes in with this nugget. I don't think this has any chance of happening even if Brady does fall off a cliff this year. Even if Garropolo outplays Brady in practice and earns the #1 spot, why would the Patriots pay their backup QB $7M a year/why would Brady ever accept a backup role?

Garoppolo will share the same fate as Mallett: potentially over drafted back up Quarterback who won't see the field as long as Brady continues to play to a high level.

The Patriots just invested heavily in protecting Brady. If he's given time and protected, there's no reason to think he can't play and produce for some time.

They've invested heavily in protecting the passing game as a unit...not just Brady. Brady has nothing to do with it. Whether you have Brady or Garoppolo back there, if they're getting the crap kicked out of them they aren't going to perform.

The O Line picks have nothing to do with with Brady or his age...it has to do with the fact it simply stunk at times in pass pro last year.

They're investing heavily in protecting Tom Brady now and the unit going forward @UK_Pat37. I've said for some time keeping Brady upright is one of the important factors determining the Patriots success.

Gisele has done her part to keep Tom erect. The rest is up to the OL.

Now we know who Caldwell sold the E to.

Regardless Brady deserves a better cast than the wonder twins edelman/amendola and the other wonder twins wendall/conolly. Once cut by the patriots neitherbwill b wanted as even as backups elsewhere just like all the others kaczur, caldwell etc. If Brady retired I garuntee u bill gets playmakers. Without Brady the offense is bottomfeeder like the D. And last year 8-8 at best. If bill knew what's good for him he would load up or at least add a playmaking talent while he can. For all he knows when Brady retires bills window is closed n barred as well. He has 2 seasons of garunteed realistic shot at a fourth n 5th trophy. After that he could vanquish with bad teams n bad qbing.

We never have to worry bout connolly/wendall testing positive for PEDs as long as they play like last yr. Actually them 2 should take their chances with the roids.

What is Tom's future?
His hair will turn gray , he will get a beer belly, Gisele will become a hag and his kids will be spoiled brats.
