Dominique Easley - what it could mean.

Do away with the need for a SS & another LB, the oft-mentioned (by me :p ) 5-2-4 base defense is now pretty much set for starters:

Ninkovich-Kelly-Wilfork-Easley-Cha. Jones
Mayo-Collins
Revis-Dennard-McCourty-Browner

Can morph in and out of 4-3, 3-4, 5-2 and even 6-1 fronts without a personnel change, can match up against 3 WR sets and most importantly: the best 11 players are on the field at the same time.

Single high safety with McCourty then you have aggressive press man with the 3 corners.

like the pick, thought it would be Nix, but i guess BB is changing his defensive philosopy whcih is good because it was very hard finding an OLB that was tall, fast strong, quick, could hold the edge and rush the passer. As far as Easleys knees go, while it concerns me i believe frank gore had an acl and has been running pretty well injury free for many years now. Ive read on here that Easleys knees could be stronger because on these surgerys, i call bs. Any time you tear someting and have to have surgery i doubt its going to be stronger. That may hold true for welding but i can't see it for the human body.

I really want them to add Kevin Pierre-Louis' speed and explosion now. I think it's the one missing piece now, a run and hit guy that can play at safety or linebacker. A poor man's Shazier.

On this point: TJ surgery is largely widely to strengthen the elbow, it's become so successful that many HS pitchers are getting it at the first sign of UCL weakness. Not saying ACL surgery is on this level because it isn't, but the above point is incorrect.

Love the pick, love the upside, love his motor and first step and he'll add versatility to the defense. Jones, Collins and Easley finally give the Pats the kind of aggressive push the Pats have needed since the days of Seymour and McGinest.

It means we won't have Jake Bequette to kick around any more.

ACL recovery ain't what it used to be. See Adrian Peterson, Wes Welker.

I agree, and I'd be fine if they took him (or Christian Kirksey) high enough to make the "REACH!" crowd turn purple. :)

in tommy john surgery the tendon from the opposite elbow is transplanted to replace the damaged one. So your replacing the damage tendon with one that hasn't been abused. Your not 'strengthening the tendon/ elbow. In an acl your not replacing the damaged ligament with one that is in better condition.

Yup. if he's our rnd 3 pick I wouldn't be disappointed. Kirksey is a more conventional linebacker but is another great choice.

Not only do players recover faster they recover healthier. This almost seems illogical but its quite common among doctors and physical therapists now that some players (especially younger ones) are almost benefitting from having these injuries so young.

There was a article written not to long ago maybe a year or so ago saying that pitches are now questioning whether they should have premptive Tommy John surgery to stregthen their pitching shoulders prolonging their careers.

It almost sounds too crazy to believe but medical science has come a long way.

Missed this post. I need to find you an article to read

I don't hold his torn ACLs against him at all, especially not his first torn ACL. What was he, 18 or 19 years old when the first tear happened? You heal quick at that age and he might even be better for it. The most recent tear is more concerning but I think he will be OK, and to be around 90% (Easley's words, not mine) after a surgery in October is incredible.

On top of which, Dr. Andrews operated on Easley's 2nd ACL tear and most probably looked at his first, and as you know, Dr. Andrews has a history with the Patriots (he also operated on Gronk). So most likely the Patriots sought his input on the health of Easley's knees before making the pick.

I just love how BB has the balls to pick a player with an injury question mark after a season replete with so many injuries.

One big risk with ACL recovery is that athletes unintentionally favor their good leg, overstressing it and putting that knee in jeopardy. For better or worse, Easley has already gone down that road and no longer has a good leg to overstress. o_O

The value was just too good to pass up. I have full faith in Andrews with no matter who he operates on.

If Dr. Andrews gave the Patriots any information about Easly's medical history/status, he would be in serious violation of HIPPA law.

Perfect! He blew them both out so now he can start fresh without favoring either!

;)

Stupid question but is Easley a DE or DT?
