I hope that's just it. Pepper wanting to be out from under the shadow. I wouldn't fault him.

This is kind of sad I wish Pepper Johnson would of chose another team besides the Jill's.
Interesting he gives homeage to Belichick then disrespects him with some were going to beat him twice.
I think we are going to a more 43 hence the guy from Minny being inserted. Pepper can Have Spikes we will take Chandler and I'll take that matchup 9 out of 10.

he's "a guy we’re going to beat next year twice."

Lol wow

Pepper talks a pretty brash game for being a lowly positional coach.

His contract requires him to attract 1000 new season ticket holders his first month on the job.

That's not disrespect; it's simply playing up to the Bill's fan-base. If he said 'We'll try to beat them twice' he'd get blasted for not having confidence in his team.

Nothing with what he said. Beat him twice a year is the right attitude and funny as hell to boot.

Sounds like he's got the pay check giddies to me. :confused2:. Good luck out there away from the "Shadow knows"...Can't blame him for following his dream. Prolly could have chosen his words more wisely tho. Enjoy getting your butt whooped

Pepper was a positional coach for BB for many years. He didn't move up the ranks to a significant degree. He then decided a new career trajectory was needed, he needed to step out from BB's org chart/legend, and he took a job with a different organization. After signing with the new organization he made some remarks about appreciating BB's comments about him as well as his new organization would be beating BB/the Patriots twice a year.
That isn't disrespect, that isn't even much of story.

The only real story here was not written (and may never be written). Pepper said he wants to be a DC. BB appears to have not seen something in Pepper that made him feel he was ready for the jump to DC. Given that reality this is a smart career move by Pepper. He's out learning new stuff from a new DC/HC which may fill in (if anything actually needed filling in) the needed gaps that will get him into a DC role one day.

That sounds good to me.

I think it is clear that Patricia got the DC position and Pepper wants to be a DC. I would not rule out a return if Patricia leaves.

Pepper doesn't have what it takes to be DC of the Patriots. That also is clear.

I wouldn't say that, I might say that Belichick likes Patricia better for the job.

If Johnson aspires to a DC position and has been passed over for others with less experience with BB 4 times, that indicates 1of 2 things to me: either after 20 plus of supervising Johnson's work BB doubts he has what takes to be a successful DC, or BB has incorrectly assessed Pepper's abilities in that area. Now, either is a possibility, but if I'm betting it's on the former. That's just me.

It's likely BB sees Pepper as someone who is a fundamentally sound LB/DL coach but not a good defensive strategist.

Whereas Pepper wants a shot to be proven a good or bad defensive strategist.

I think this is just an amicable split. Nothing wrong with Pepper wanting a shot at becoming a DC -- if he succeeds, maybe he's happier & richer. If he fails, he can go back to being a LB/DL coach.

Maybe the Bills promised him either more input into front 7 strategy or maybe they said they'd consider him if the DC opens up

Agreed. Just because BB may not think Johnson is DC timber doesn't mean he isn't a fine position coach. I'm sure he is, and who knows? If given a chance, he may succeed as a DC.

I don't know how someone could possibly criticize Pepper for this. When you find out there's no room for growth at a company you leave. That's perfectly normal. Good for him and I hope we sweep them in 2014.

wow.....took him that long to figure it out?
