Devin McCourty deserves to go to the pro bowl, that's not just Pats fan logic, he has been one of the best safety's in the league. However it came out today that he was 10th in the pro bowl safety voting, which seems very low for how well he has played this season. Perhaps I am wrong though, has McCourty really not played nearly as well as I think or is really that safety isn't nearly as sexy of a position as CB and the fact that McCourty doesn't have lots of box score stats that people can see. Or maybe its the fact that McCourty struggled so much after his all-pro 2010 season, I really do not know. I view Devin McCourty as a defensive leader on this team and one of the best defensive players in the NFL, one who should be given strong consideration for an extension this off season. But what do you all think?

I haven't been following safeties in the AFC, but who else? Eric Berry?

McCourty has been great this season, definitely deserves it IMO.

TJ ward. but I think thats kind of the problem, everybody just sees picks and tackles and knows nothing about the players

He'll have an exemption like the other Patriots and won't have to play anyway.

If brandon meriweather can make one so can dmc.

Even though i think dmc is overrated.

Fan voting = Joke of a Pro Bowl Game

Haven't fans in the past voted in players who were hurt and didn't even play down most of the season.

Yeah popularity contest and we all know how Pats usually fair in those types of contests ;)

Plus with any luck Patriot players won't be available for that game cause they will be getting ready for a bigger one :D

Richard Sherman 2012: not in the probowl, 1st team All-Pro:

The probowl is voted by casual clueless fans. As long as Devin gets on the all-pro team, that's all that matters for individual achievement.

I'm not a clueless fan, but I vote for completely random people just for fun. I don't really want any Patriots playing in that game.

McCourty should go to the Pro Bowl (he's one of the two best safeties in the AFC), but he won't. His national reputation is still as a 'bust' cornerback first and a good safety second.

Meriweather made it for the same reason DMC won't: Stats. He had 80+ tackles, 4-5 picks, some big hits, etc.

DMC is a better, smarter safety, but he doesn't get the sexy numbers so anyone voting who hasn't watched him play extensively won't see a tangible reason to vote for him.

Are we really discussing the pro bowl fan vote?

Unfortunately we've had other non-important topics on this board before. Why not discuss this too :peace:

Bad example, nobody is going to vote for a punk who can't shut his mouth.

But your point is noted.;)

LaDanian Tomlinson never made a Pro Bowl? LeSean McCoy? Revis? Keyshawn Johnson?

Your post is one of the least factual ones in the history of this forum. :D

When Richard Sherman's fellow peers(i.e Champ Bailey) even says the guy needs to stop talking I think that's on a different level then the guys you mentioned.

Pro Bowl recognition doesn't have any meaning or value anymore.

McCourty is one of the best defensive backs in the NFL right now, regardless of whether he gets voted in or not. To me, that's all that matters.

He's way overrated on this board and does not deserve to go. Other than a play or two; all he has done this season is tackle the player after they catch the ball.

I'm not sure there is a poster whose opinion I disagree with on a regular basis such as yours coolguy. There is simply no way you can be a Patriots fan given your consistent negative posting toward Patriots players.

McCourty has been outstanding this season.

See any thread with "Manning" in the title.

He is not a patriot fan.
