Ras-I Dowling released

Re: Re: Ras-I Dowling released

Who's Ras-I Dowling? Did he play for us?

He played for our affiliated squad, their called Injured Reserve, he was their all time leader in games played.

Dennard will likely miss the first game. We are already feeling the effect this year.

It is tough to envision Dennard being suspended this season, a DUI doesn't violate the personal conduct policy, it is a violation of the substance abuse policy. If he was to be suspended it would have to be based upon a violation of probation verdict, which likely will not occur until after a finding in the DUI case. I'm not saying its impossible he would be suspended, I just see it being more an issue in 2014.

Not because of the court case, maybe due to injury, we play on a Sunday in week 1 if I'm not mistaken. I haven't heard anything suggesting that he was going to miss week 1, I heard he was back at practice.

Oh man, I love those guys!

I know, me too, I slept outside Lahey Clinic which is the name of their stadium attempting to get tickets but they sold out before I got to the counter :D

If you wanna see a bad track record-

Bill Belichick's 2nd round corners- 2008 Wheatley, 2009 Butler, 2011 Dowling.

3 2nd rounders on corners that have failed. No wonder it's been a revolving door back there.

Butler is playing half way decent now...go figgur.

In other news today, the New England Patriots have announced the release of the window repairman from the training staff.

BB listened to his own tune in NOT dealing the #33 pick and drafting an injury-prone CB. One of the biggest draft busts of his tenure.

Of course, next year we might be saying the same of last years surprise pick Tavon Wilson-- another many teams had NOT heard of.

At least Tavon Wilson contributes on special teams.

Glass-I dowling cut? meh

I agree that Belichick has been pretty bad at drafting CB's in the higher rounds, but in all fairness he was attempting to trade the pick with anyone who would listen to him. We saw actual taped footage of it a few weeks later.

Unfortunately no one would accept a proposed trade and he was forced to make the pick. Even worse it was another failure at the position of CB.

I still think this kid can play, and might show up at some pt in the future as a starter somewhere.

I also think the pick was correct without the benefit of hindsight. Sometimes good players get injured and there's no obvious way to know.

Yes he has injury history, but the risk was worth it given the lack of tall CBS in the league with that type of athleticism.

All high hopes and expectations, sux that it didn't work out for him & Pats. Time to move on I guess. I'm never surprised with moves Pat's make. BB must have something up his half sleeve.

So long Ras I. best of luck in he future.

Memo to Bill Belichick: If a player is injury prone in high school and in college then chances are pretty good he will be the same in the NFL.
Please apply this simple formula in all future drafts.
Thank you.

I haven't read this thread since the first page, so I don't know the context, but I find it interesting that it now has like three times as many posts as Ras-I played snaps for the Patriots.

Why?

That's a serious question.

Why? What do YOU gain by giving them **** for picks that didn't work out.

Bottom line: they're the best franchise in the league over the last dozen years. They're playing deep into January every year.

You're not giving them ****, you're just venting on a board full of fans - so what really is accomplished by p***ing and m***ing? Seriously, who cares?

I'm sorry to see that it didn't work out with Dowling, This defense is thin at interior DL, and now seems thin at CB. Two needs instead of one. That's not good. I was hoping Dowling could get past it and get on the field, because he has the physical gifts to really excel at CB, Talib-like. Also, from the tapes I saw from his college days, seems like a good kid.

His body couldn't take the NFL, apparently. Sucks, but it is what it is.

As for giving BB and the organization ****, well...

Just win.

And thank you for the last 12 years. I remember 30 before that.

I have no objection to pointing out misfires when appropriate. It is no different than when someone posts film demonstrating that so-and-so screwed up his coverage responsibilities.

What amuses me is when fans pry out failures in an otherwise excellent draft as if there is some mythical team out there that never misses on a draft pick. That is the underlying subtext and why it is relevant to remind the board once in a while that Bill's drafting compares favorably to supposedly superior GMs in the last 5 years and in his tenure.
