Devin McCourty around the web

Re: Devin McCourty

I went to Rutgers undergrad and I am currently in Rutgers Business School, and being an avid football fan, I have seen every Rutgers game for the last seven years. Devin McCourty has no business being drafted, in any round, period. He has terrible hands, he is a very average tackler, and he has no instincts to speak off. He has never made one impact play at Rutgers, in fact he has missed a number of tackles and INT that could have changed the game. Devin will play special trams for 3 years and be out of football in 5 years. This is simply the worst pick of the first round, the worst pick of the BB era, and is the exact reason this teams reign in the NFL is over!!! We will be fighting The Bills for the third spot in the East, and you know what I can't say we are a lock for number 3.

I hope you are better at the business end of things than you are at evaluating football players...

Allow me to reiterate:

Love that probably the only guy on this board qualified to have a valid opinion about Mccourty - an actual Rutgers alum who watched all the games - is being ridiculed because he dares to disagree with BB. Classic patsfans.com.

I'm 6'4", blond, blue eyed, 6 pack abs, bench 225 20 reps, drive a Mercedes and have both a trust fund and a 7 figure bank account. If you don't believe me, ask Tom Bonneau..he'll set you all straight.

Considering that he said that McCourty shouldn't even be drafted it goes against every single scouting report available. That is why he's being ridiculed. Classic strawman argument on patsfans.com by you though.

Undrafted is extreme. But he's still seen the kid play more games than everyone else on this thread, and while his reaction is emotional and over the top, the fact he feels that strongly is at the very least food for thought.

I'm sure if he said that he's seen every game and loves McCourty should have been a top 10 pick, best DB in college footballs, the reactions to that equally extreme opinion would be treated quite differently.

I don't get it? You are inferring he is lying on the Internet about being from Rutgers and watching all the games and I'm gullible?

Almost everyone has him as a top 3 corner and most have him with a first round grade. So here comes some dude and says he's watched the games and that McCourty shouldn't even be drafted and I'm supposed to take that as gospel? Why should this guy's opinion of him carry more weight than that of Bill Belichick? Some people here are just absolutely ridiculous. And I'm not even a fan of the pick.

Did I say you should take it as gospel? Did I say his opinion carries more weight than BB? No.

But when I read from a fan of a team that the player the Pats drafted causes some sort of violent nauseous reaction, rather than dismiss the person out of hand, it makes me curious and I wonder.

So did a quick search before heading out to work for some Rutgers fan pages. Found the below link. I feel better now that his is an isolated opinion.

And looks like this poster is in the minority. Hopefully the masses are proven right.

Re: Devin McCourty

His coach was just on 98.5 talking him up...

How he was used initially to how he was used in the end at Rutgers is exactly how his role is being described here: nickelback, then gliding into starting, then being a stand alone coverage guy going up against teams' top receivers.

Also thrown in there was BB's connection to the school- his son plays lacrosse there, so for all we know he could have had his sights on him for a long time before the draft.

I am content so far. I am on record as saying they will trade, which I am glad they did...hell they did it twice! 5 DB's were taken in the first round. The Pats are no different than the others.

BB drafts for value at that pick, not reach for what the team needs the most. WE have 3 2nd round picks FFS.

Your comment can be taken two ways.

For the Patriots sake, I hope he is bad at evaluating football players. his business acumen is irrelevant.

Why hasn't BB made you a scout for the team? I just can't understand his decision making...

And this is what Rick Gosselin has to say about him:

Devin McCourty, Cornerback, Rutgers

Not only is McCourty an elite cover cornerback, he may be the best special teams player in this draft. He blocked seven kicks and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in his career.

Re: Devin McCourty

In the worthy Pro Football Weekly Draft Preview, McCourty is listed as the 31st prospect...So it is not a reach. By the way, Nawrocki put Kyle Wilson lower.

Kindle got drafted? Must have missed that. The Pats have 11 more picks including three in the second round. By this time tomorrow, Kindle might be a Patriot.

As for Dez Bryant, it just save the Pats from having to cut him in two years like they did with Chad Jackson. Bryant might turn into a superstar with the Cowboys, but it is doubtful he would with the Pats. The guy was too dumb to pick up a college playbook. How was he going to pick up the Pats' playbook?

Not thrilled the Pats picked a CB with the pick, but I didn't want Bryant and the Pats still can draft Kindle.

Bingo!!! We have a bingo!!!

I was thinking the same thing about all of the "how could we pass on Bryant" talk.

uh...yeah, Tom...I am...nothing against you,I just smell a pinheaded, little green rat...they ARE all over this board and for the most part think that they're telling us nothing when in fact they reveal everything.

yeah ...hi!!! big Pats fan!!! hey, you know that guy from Rutgers the Pats took?
yeah, Rutgers in New Jersey...well that guy saucks real bad and should have been a sixth round pick...I've seen all the Rutgers games here...in New Jersey..because i'm from New Jersey....and I"M A BIG PATS FAN...hi everybody!!! Our first pick is the worst player in Rutgers history...believe me...and there's a TON of Pats fans just like me, the huge Pats fan who knows things, down here in New Jersey..

see, to me, that is as transparent an indictment of the poster as can be for no other reason than I personally have been to a number of Rutgers games, both football and basketball, over the past two decades because i have family who played sports there...and I can tell you from PERSONAL experience...I have NEVER seen a Pats cap worn by any student or anybody else when I've been down there .Plus, I have gotten nothing but grief from the Jersebag Jet and Giant fans for wearing a Pats or Sox hat. No big thing but THAT is the reality , that is the way the Rutgers fan base is populated and I'm 99% certain this "Pats" fan is another less than skilled Rat troll from J.I. or Gangrene.
