Ian's Daily Blog - The Boston Globe’s Mike Reiss*just released his mailbag for this week, and made an interesting comment when discussing the potential Julius Peppers trade that never materialized.“As for Julius Peppers, another hot topic in the past and the subject of a few e-mails to the mailbag this week, it looks to me like that one is [...]

Reiss said as much on Sports Final after the draft. At this point, it is hard to argue since there seems to be no activity on the Peppers front for any team, not just the Patriots.

If something were to happen regarding Peppers, the Pats would play it slow and show no interest until the Panthers were desperate, and Peppers wanted out bad enough to compromise on month. And neither may happen.

But if this is to happen, it will appear dead for a while before it does.

Never really believed it, thought that his salary demands would throw things completely out of kilter for this franchise..

Just too much money. The Patriots look a lot smarter for getting something quick for Cassel rather than wait.

If it appears dead, someone please bury the body so it doesn't come back again.

But think what BB could do with a ZOMBIE Peppers! Sure, he'd lose some speed, but since you can't hit guys in the head there'd be no way to stop him!

The most telling comment was the fact he said, ”I’m not sure it was ever alive.”

From a report saying "the deal was done" to it never even existed. What a saga that one was.

Feels like the day I found out Santa wasn't real

Maybe all the ludicrous "Peppers To The Patriots" threads could be 'accidently' deleted and lost forever so that the incessant Peppers!!! posters here won't have to suffer permanent embarrasment at their gullibility and folly. ;)

So essentially now that the dust has settled on the Cassel trade, the Patriots ended up with a second round pick AND threw in Vrabel as part of the deal.

With Peppers now not coming here (which many thought was the other shoe to drop on the Vrabel inclusion in the trade), they have yet to replace Vrabel, one of their key leaders on defense.

Wonderful.

Browsing through the forum, I read this as 'Peppers Appears Dead'

Come down off the ledge, you'll be fine. AD/Redd/Crable/Alexander say hello.

You could spin this the other way too just as easily. Looking at how difficult it has been to get a franchised Peppers either happy and on the team or traded, I don't think taking a 2nd round pick for about 16 million in combined cap space was a bad deal at all.

Delusional Fan: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a fan like me... ending up together?
Julius Peppers: Well, ****, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
Delusional Fan: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Julius. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Julius Peppers: Not good.
Delusional Fan: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Julius Peppers: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Delusional Fan: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*
