They must have a deal for a cb in mind or their eye someone they believe will get cut. I just can't see carrying 3 CB's.

Lewis Sanders would make four. But, the thought is still a bit scary.

Glad Lynch was not cut like the idiot who used it as a header in the other thread

I may get bashed for this but anyone thinking that maybe Meriweather will be spending a good deal of time at Corner or is this not possible?

Looking over these cuts I'll have to echo what some others have already pointed out and say on paper the Patriots appear to be a little thin at CB.

1. Ellis Hobbs (Better than some people around here would like to believe)
2. Terrence Wheatley (who I actually think is going to develop into a very good CB)
3. Lewis Sanders
4. Jonathan Wilhite

They could use Meriweather, Slater or Ventrone as a Nickle in certain situations, so their depth might not be that much of an issue, if the unit can stay reasonably healthy.

I'll still be watching to see if they add another CB over the next week though.

Right now it looks possible, dissapointed in Bryant, thought that would been a good signing, its just was not working out, and from what I saw was not that good.. But something has to be in the works..

8 WR including Vetrone..

Re: Patriots make cuts

Not me, I saw a guy that was all done and I posted many times about it, only to get lambasted by Sicilian over it. This is very, very relieving and hands the reigns over to Wheatley, whewwwwww...........

Well, to be fair, it wasn't just me, and my underlying point still stands: BB is the better judge. When he was trotting him out with the 1st team, I was more apt to trust his judgment over anyone here.

But, fair play to you. You were right, I was wrong :eat3:

Re: Patriots make cuts

3 CBs? Hobbs, Wheatley, Wilhite, and L. Sanders makes 4...

you are forgetting Ventrone, that makes 6.

Re: Patriots cut down to 53

Wow thats a lot of targets. I'ld call it 16 and 1/2 because Faulk is not elidgible and when he is it is likely one of the 16 others is gone.

Chop 2 more off if Aiken and most important, Welker aren;t ready yet.

8 WR's
5 RB's
3 TE's

Who says Belichick is all about the defense :D

Re: Patriots make cuts

Now, folks can start speculating about the practice squad ... any thoughts?
Of those released in the last cutdown, the following are eligible:
46 DeVree, Tyson TE
30 Dillard, Mark S
42 Green-Ellis, BenJarvus RB
7 Gutierrez, Matt QB
49 Redd, Vince LB
35 Richardson, Mike CB
64 Sene, Stephen T
28 Spann, Antwain DB

The bolded players are those most likely to be signed if they clear waivers. I know little of Sene, other then he was being eaten alive by McDougal in the Philly game, he does seem like the type of project Scar likes to play with. That DeVree was brought back may suggest he worked hard on whatever assignment he was given when cut originally, but I also saw a couple TEs on other cut lists who might fit here in some role.

Baltimore's LB Robert McCune might be a decent signing if he wants to take a chance on NE over B'more, I don't see trying to claim him on waivers. I'd also take a run at DL Keilen Dykes if he clears waivers for the Cardinals.

I hope Merriweather's role on defense is mostly at safter and not cb he just seemed more comfortable playin saftey.

That OR......converting Slater into a FS/NCB, I wouldn't classify Slater as a WR, he'll be in the secondary in some capacity.

Wilhite at NCB to start the season, I'm fine with. Let's let these two (Wheatley and Wilhite) grow together and learn under fire. So glad BB cut his losses with Bryant instead of being stubborn with him and watching him get lit up like Bourbon Street.

I believe they intend to use him mostly at FS this season, but I'm sure they could use him as a "CB" in certain situations. A number of these packages will likely be three Safety sets, but you'll have a hard time explaining the difference to some members of this forum.

Hey but at least we'll be running a lot more 9-receiver sets.

The Pat's D is getting old? Don't believe the hype. The media will be surprised to discover 20+ dudes on D that are under 27 years old, around 13 of those are under 24.
