Your right. It's a classic BB pick. He was overshadowed by David Irons and Patrick Lee during his college career, but he has good measurables so the potential is there at a low risk draft slot.

Agreed, he's got great speed (4.38) - fits the mold along with Hobbs and Wheatley. They must believe they can coach him [Wilhite] into a better player than the "draft pundits" had him pegged as.

The thing with the pundits is they fixate on the trend of the big WR too much and kinda peg guys for their size which if you have listened to Scott and Bill you would know they actually perfer the smaller shiftier corners for their agility.

Just off the top of my head I recall one of them saying the big thing is the ability to react to what the WR does because unlike the WR you don't know where your going before yuo have to go there. I guess the smaller guys have more fluid hips which allows them to react and cut quicker. Maybe someone else remembers the comments I speak to and can elaborate.

Pioli on NEST with a post-draft interview with Felger. And I think he was saying exactly what you say above - its easier for the smaller guys to stay with wideouts - of any size - in and out of cuts.

We took a shot on Wilhite in the 4th. He is expected to replace Spann/Ventrone as our 9th DB this year. He might never be active and be considered a developmental player. He is still a good choice in the 4th round.

I know, I was only kidding. People do need to get out of this mindset that there's a fixed scale of players at each position. BB knows what he's looking for in cornerbacks and it's not the same as other teams. It seems he values quickness and change of direction and tries to get proven veterans with size as situational guys.

I couldn't quote them, but he got pretty specific on the idea they look for quickness and change of direction ability.
