Patriots' Kaczur arrested for illegal possession of painkillers

WTF??? He was in a sting operation?

I think i just saw this movie. It was called "We Own The Night". And it sucked.

Bizarre...

It did suck. Showing Eva Mendez over and over in the promos was a real mislead. They had an All-Star cast with no real story.
After this movie and probably M. Night Shylam's next flop, Marky Mark may need to go back to the Funky Bunch.

I wonder when he shared his arrest with the team. If he cooperated with the authorities in hopes of avoiding the arrest becoming public knowledge, he could face possible consequences. A player is supposed to inform the team and NFL of an arrest immediately, and failure to do so subjects them to discipline. That is part of what got Pacman Jones in trouble on one of his many issues.

I would assume their is an exemption to that requirement if part of your cooperation agreement is to tell no one you are going to participate in a covert sting operation. I am sure that as long as he told the team and league as soon as the covert operation ended than their would not be consequences for the late reporting only the underling offense.

Based on Ross signing, I would say the team learned in the past few days.

These pills are bad news, i have a few former friends i knew that got hooked on them and moved to other worse drugs "heroin" when they got to expensive for them to buy.

Yeah, I know someone who had back surgery, and was on the pills for a while. He said that they "were really, really good" and he had to stop himself frequently from taking them.

maybe there was pain that he needed to kill.

I'm no expert on pain killers, but 100 pills every 5 days seems like a lot to me. Is it possible these were not solely for him? Not trying to start crap here, just wondering..

The Defense lawyer for the dealer suggested that he might have been inflating his estimates of the volume in order to appear more useful to the police in order to garner favor and not be charged with anything. Hard to know either way. With that said, I also agree that 20 pills/day is crazy, but having been around guys who get addicted to them, they eat them like candy, it gets very nutty to watch.

I think we can expect a 4 game suspension. Might be wrong about that but don't be surprised.

.

Considering how much of a sieve the league office is in matters related to the Pats, it seems prudent to not have told the league or Jay Glazer would have been reporting ti that night, blowing the sting....

For a first offense with no charges filed? I'd be shocked but wouldn't put it past the league office.

He needs painkillers for all the butt-kickings he took last year.

You beat me to it!

I was going to say it is probably treatment for the arse-whuppin' Michael Strahan and Co. laid on him during the Super "They Took Away My Perfect Season" Bowl!

LOL!

In all seriousness, though, that Oxy is some serious dope, and that's no joke.

I buried a good friend, Fred C., four years ago who had surgery, got hooked on that c r a p, and never recovered.

Before that junk finally took his life, my buddy Fred wrecked 2 or 3 cars, wasted a ton of cash, and generally morphed from a productive member of society into a pretty sad creature.

I don't even know why the FDA ever approved that drug!

I've heard nothing but bad stories, addiction and results from people who have used it.

Our offensive lineman sure do suck. They only ever seem to give up sacks, never make them.

It took me a second, but the sarcasm is well-appreciated. :)

Listening to D & C this AM, seemed more reasonable than usual, and they were comparing it to Rush Limbaughs addiction.. and came up with that this consumption is about right for this type of addiction.. take 3 or 4 every 4 hours.. not sure though.. it seems more of a supply and demand thing.

Is it totally insensitive to say that he should be suspended immediately BY THE TEAM before the league gets even around to imposing their penalties.

Someone needs to help this kid and get him into rehab before they end up with his number on their helmets next season!

At this rate we'll have 6 or 7 guys with 4-game suspensions to start the season.

Another person misses the point - he was toasted by any team with a half-decent pass rush.

Most likely he was breaking them up and snorting them up his nose. This is pretty much what people do who are addicted to this stuff. Not saying for fact that this is what he did, but like i said i had a good 4 people i knew well, get hooked on doing that then turned to heroin when 40 dollar pills became to much to pay for. These are not oxycodine which i think alot of people here are confusing these with.

Plain and simple to describe how bad these pills can be, everyone that i knew that messed with these pos pills became addicted and ruined their lives!

So Kaczur commits a crime involving prescription pain killers and cooperates with authorities... and Marshawn Lynch nearly kills someone and obstructs justice, a felony, by blocking the investigation.

Any guesses who the league comes down harder on?

It's not entirely clear whether it was OxyContin or oxycodone (Percocet) that he was buying before the sting operation. In any case, it's the same compound, just different delivery vehicles (sort of like the difference between an Acela and a regular Amtrak train).

But let me quote a paragraph I posted over on the Planet:

I'm not happy with the situation, but, at the moment, I'm more concerned about Kaczur as a human than as an NFL player. Personally, I don't think he should get cut over this alone; playing in the NFL can be brutal--either Brady or Vrabel talked about waking up on Monday mornings and p***ing blood--and I will not fault players for becoming addicted to painkillers as a result. If it were something clearly not medically necessary (e.g., Ecstasy), then I would have no sympathy whatsoever.

The drug is one of the front line painkillers for cancer patients, but so popular as a street drug that pharmacies no longer stock it because they were getting robbed just for it.

He could be addicted because he uses it to play through unresolved pain, or he could just have an addictive disorder. His rookie season there were rumblings that the team was not happy with him because he was partying on weeknights and showing up to practice hung over. They drafted him in part because at 26 already they had hoped the were getting a mature guy out of the rookie gate.

Hopefully his decision to cooperate though only facing a misdemeanor charge is a sign he wants to get clean He's going to be peeing in a cup now, but I believe that was all he was ever facing from the league. I'm pretty sure the CBA has rules pertaining to the program and penalties that differentiate substance abuse between performance enhancers like steroids and hgh vs. other drugs like pot or pills or even alcohol. The only way he'd get suspended for this is if he was already in the program, and it wouldn't appear he is or an opiate would have likely shown on his screens. Picking up an extra lineman is probably based on their concern that he could end up suspended on a subsequent offense.
