For me, NOW is the low point

Hopefully, my perspective will be changed by events over the next few days. See belwo for my list. And BTW, none of this has anything to do with spying, tampering or the NFL offices.

Moss is rumored to be looking at other teams.
Gaffney was not extended.
Washington was not restructured and extended.
Faulk was arrested.
Andrews was arrested.
Bruschi is rumored to be retiring.
Colvin was cut.
Lua was cut.
Samuel is almost assuredly gone.
Gay was not extended.
Wilson was not extended.

Did I miss anything?

Was there any good news on the player front? BTW, I expect Seau to be back after playing in the sun until the beginning of August.

I don't see how this is very surprising.

We knew Colvin's cap number didn't match his production and the Pats typically say good bye to those in that spot, knew Asante was gone last August, knew Wilson was done here when he was a healthy inactive during the year, knew Tedy was thinking retirement, etc.

Gay, Gaffney, or Washington were highly likely to test the market unless the Pats had long term market value deals offerred to them - something that was very unlikely. Any of the 3 could still very well be back but why wouldn't they test the market first unless they get the type of cash to make it not worth shopping themselves around. None have made big $ during their careers and this quite frankly is the best shot that any of the 3 will have to do so. And why would the Pats set the market for 3 roll players?

Outside of the arrests (and really only the Faulk arrest if you know Andrews history) and possibly the non franchising of Moss, which of these wasn't predictable? You could say Lua but it is really never a surprise when a 7th round pick gets cut.

The late Sam Kinison put it best:

"OH! OOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!"

Unless his hiring was something done just in case Belichick is suspended on Spygate nonsense... Which prob is not , but the way this month has gone you never know..

I think they hired Capers for the same reason the Pats traded for Randy Moss: they felt his being in Foxboro will improve the team. No more, no less. If it happens to be insurance for Belichick getting suspended, so be it, but that's not the primary reason for hiring him.

I'm still in shock about the Colvin cut and I have a hard time making sense given what little we know at this point that the Pats simply chose to cut the guy while taking a $1.8m dead money hit. There's a serious hole in the heart of the defense.

Just to be clear, since Colvin was in the last year of his contract, they're not really taking a dead money hit; no new money is moving onto the cap. (Yes, there's cap allocation being taken up by a player no longer on the team, but that's not quite the same thing.)

Have we won a SB since Ty Left?

Also, let us just accept that Thomas will replace Colvin on the outside. That leaves a huge void inside as in 2005. Hopefully, this time the SAME front office will do better in addressing the situation.

we lost ty law and he was a lot better then samuel gay is not that good any way we where 18 and 0 and and we have the 7th pick in the draft we will be ok

Dead money is cap money being allocated to a player not on the squad. The $1.8M is dead money because it is cap money that cannot be used on a player.

Understand how you feel.

but how's that saying go ....

'It's always darkest just before the Dawn'

There is a new Day a head for the PATs and it will be Great! ..just know it! :D

Are you suggesting Kraft get a NEW front office? Otherwise I don't understand the need for the capitalization.

Fair enough. I was just trying to draw a distinction between this case and that of Corey Dillon (which did, at least in theory, risk bringing money in from future years).

There has to be a plan in all of this,

Colvin too much of a cap hit.. could be back, there were some issues with him shedding blocks..
Moss.. really believe he will be back
Bruschi.. needs to move on, as much as we all care about him
Washington.. will be back
Samuel... too rich for our blood, we will be having conversations about a system CB soon.
Lua.. hardly knew ye
Wilson.. did not play all that much
Gay.. will be back.
Faulk.. not that big a deal..

Stay tuned, we will be ok and our D will look different next year.. in our close games our LB crew was tested too much, and even though they held their ground for the most part there is a need for an upgrade..

I hope your right with Colvin - obviously the PATS were not going to pay that much for a guy consistently hurt like Colvin but I hope they want back at a cheaper price. Our LB crew is , lack of a better word, in deepsh*t.

How about Wilson - who would of thought, back in 2004, that it wouldn't be a 'loss' at this stage if we cut him! Amazing how I (& most people) thought he might pan to be a pretty good Coach B 'system' DB (safety / CB / zone / blitz..)....amazing.

oh well - let's go draft & free agency to boost that D!

We've literally been within two plays of winning two. Not to mention that Law missed all the playoffs last time we won the SB.

We HAVE won a SB without Ty Law (technically he had yet to "leave"). In 2004-2005 Post season.

The Patriots beat the (then) 15-2 Indy Colts (Manning's, then, record setting TD year) 20-3.

The Patriots beat the (then) 16-1 Pittsburgh Steelers (who had previously crushed the Pats in the reg. season).

The Pats beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the SB.

All without Ty Law who watched it unfold with the same look on his face that Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey had a few weeks ago.

All this negativity is starting to bore the crap out of me.

As long as Brady is on this team, we'll be a playoff team.

As long as Brady AND Moss are on this team, we'll be a Super Bowl contender.

As long as Brady AND Moss are on this team and we have a half-decent defense, we'll be Super Bowl favorites.

RELAX. This defense needed re-vamping. It's time to gut that old Comm Ave brownstone and turn it into a sleek modern condo. The foundation is in place for a great D, we just need to fill it out. Think of Capers as the new general contractor. Someone stop me before I take this metaphor way too far.

So, does this mean Seymour's next on the chopping block?

Honestly, this thread is like a fan at Gillette saying "The Pats are awful today" during Carmina Burana.

Weve been to 4 SB's in 7 years, have 3 rings, went 18 and 1 this year...what makes anyone think that suddenly the Pats are in trouble?? Dont think so. When FA starts and then the draft, everything will pick up. :D
