Weather equalizer Monday night(merged X 2)?

Re: Weather equalizer Monday night?

Good point, but let's not get too fine. Remember that Heinz field is notoriously bad for field goals, and yet, Jeff Reed is a good kicker. The problem is that he's never kicked one more than 50 yards. So, my point was that when the field goal percentage at a particular stadium is good, it has to do with a combination of a good kicker, a decent field surface, and a field that is impervious to high wind conditions. M&T Bank Stadium has all of these. Heinz Field has only Reed. Since field goal kicks travel at a higher altitude than passes, any field with wind conditions that impact the passing game will tend to have a lower field goal success rate. There will not be a problem with passing due to high winds in the M&T Bank Stadium area on Monday night.

Actually Reed is 5/9 on attempts of 50+ (don't know breakdown of home/away)

I agree with you but the original posting didn't mention the quality of the kicker, just the field and I was raising the point that a good kicker can influence those numbers by virtue of the fact that in average, he's attempting 50% of the kicks.

Not a good forecast for tomorrow night!

It look like the weather will effect the passing game tomorrow night, esp the long passing game.

This for NWS in Baltimore.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.

The Ravens could not have had a better forecast.

its going to affect the ravens offense also so i wouldn't worry about it. so the pats will win 21 to nothing instead of 41 to 13 .

Agree, Reed is a good kicker, no doubt. The weather report indicates that while it will be windy, all the rain will have moved through by early Monday. Wind and rain make for terrible ball control issues. We're fortunate the game will be dry, at least with respect to precipitation.;)

Re: Not a good forecast for tomorrow night!

Whatever. Perfect conditions would be nice but our short passing game should still be WAY better than theirs.

Somehow this fact is oblivious to Pats homers who take affront at even mentioning the possibility that high winds inhibiting the Pats deep passing game might just might affect the short passing game and the running game. We may get a foretaste of just how effective Maroney could be in windy January playoff games. I'm optimistic about a Pats W, but not about a high score. Watch the universe's perversity strike and the Pats score 30+.

You don't have to be a homer to think that Moss, Welker, Watson and Stallworth can get open short to medium without going deep. I don't, anyway.

There is a reply to that but I don't think I'll make it.:D

However when you think about it have you ever seen anyone LMAO or freezing it off? Walk around the local Wal*Mart and you will see that it will take a tremendous amount of laughing and freezing for that to happen to many people.

Good luck tomorrow night!

Re: Weather equalizer Monday night(merged)?

I remember being at the Pats/Titans playoff game a fews years ago when it was seventeen below zero. Good times.

Re: Weather equalizer Monday night(merged)?

Latest forecast has winds steady at 25 mph throughout the game, regular temps in the mid 30s, putting wind chill in the 20s.

On the deep ball yes. Brady can make it happen in less then ideal conditions. That much we know.

We drove by the stadium today , and it seems to be enclosed. Does an enclosed stadium usually shelter the field from the wind?

Re: wind in baltimore.

Not Wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: wind in baltimore.

Has Brady never played in the bad weather before? Gee, did the Patriots not have a deep threat last year and make it one game from the Super Bowl? I think they can handle it.
