Drew was good for the Pats.
Perhaps one of my all-time favorite games was the Vikings game. I never saw (and neither has any other NFL fan ever) anybody put the ball up so often, or complete so many passes.
In fact, when he was allowed to run the offense he seemed energized and fully engaged in a way that makes me wonder if the coach just didn't get it. Drew was pretty lethal in a no-huddle offense. I think it wore down the defense just enough to provide him with the confidence in his protection to focus entirely on his job of throwing the ball.
Just my opinion. I hate second-guessing coaches, especially SB coaches. But how could you miss the effectiveness of the no-huddle that day and wonder what if ....?
I see guys here ragging on him for not making TO the feature target, but that was the coach's decision and was based in the coach getting stiffed by the owner. The coach and QB already had a scheme and they didn't want to give it up. At that time Glenn was performing at a high level and they didn't even need TO to be a top offense. TO was not good for the chemistry of that team, even though he is good for the chemistry of the current team. Chemistry is about being accepted and acceptable, not just being talented. TO obviously is the darling of the current coach and QB and that is working well for them. The owner really forced a changing of the guard there and if he's happy with it, and the fans are happy with it, that's all that counts.
Yes, it's too bad the previous coach and QB were not ready to embrace a guy that just shredded the Eagles and got thrown out on his ass, but probably 99% of the guys posting this thread guessed he would be a bust in Dallas and are forgetting that now.
Romo is a better talent than Drew unless we're watching a mirage, but was willing to bet that two years ago?
It all looks easy in hindsight - all the decisions about who to hire and play all look easy now. Call this thread the hindsight thread.
Well, here's some non-hindsight for you: The Patriots lack depth at QB. That is a result of a decision to get rid of Vinny in order to develop another young guy. But that decision is just as vulnerable as Fat Man's decision to stick with Drew. It's made in advance of knowing how it's going to turn out. I sure don't want to go into the SB with Cassell as the QB, and it has been my desire to see an experienced backup QB here since camp. I'm bummed that the coach decided what he decided, especially since Vinny was available, can still play at a high level, and loved the team. But we get what we get and we just hope that it works out, just like Fat Man in Dallas.
