Troy activated, Colvin to IR, Chad Brown signed [merged]

What the Kareem Brown release showed was that the Jets knew what they

were doing when they traded up to get two real good players. From

nine players we drafted, only one player remains on the active roster and

he plays very little. Two other draftees are on IR and it is doubtful

that they would have made the 53 man roster.

Even though forum members will argue that we obtained SF #1 in 2008,

Randy Moss, and Wes Welker for draft picks, the fact remains that the

nine players we drafted were lousy choices. These players were even

worse than the players drafted in the Bobby Grier era.

Losing Colving hurts big time of course. But I suppose in a way it frees Adalius Thomas to play his natural position now.

What it shows is that 2007 was a lousy draft class and the Patriots tried to do their very best to punt, or trade out of this year's draft.
1st rounder 2007 -> 4th rounder 2007 and 1st rounder 2008
2nd rounder 2007 -> Wes Welker
3rd rounder 2007 -> 3rd rounder 2008
4th rounder 2007 -> Randy Moss

We're still better off than we were when Seau went down last year. Let's be honest, AD wasn't exactly lighting it up on the inside this year. Now, everyone can be at their natural positions.

I agree. We may not be losing as much as we fear at the end of the day. THe problem is depth and I wouldn't bet a nickel on the rest of those guys staying completely healthy.

It's official, this season's relatively good luck with injuries is over.

Here's the full transcript of the release issued by the Patriots moments ago:

The issue is health. We have come to Game 12 with a relatively healthy set of linebackers.

We have four excellent starters, and three backups well-experienced in our system. Chad Brown is an emergency pickup since we already have Woods as a backup OLB. Alexander is the backup ILB.

Thomas and Vrabel outside is as good as it gets.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Thomas does at his natural position.

ya the jets are looking so good with those picks

The Revis decision was a good one to make. The Patriots and the Jets both made good decisions. The Jets traded up to get one difference-maker. The Patriots took a guy they thought could be a difference maker (the jury's still out), then traded most of the rest of their picks for those in a deeper draft or for veterans that could help the team immediately (and, as its turned out, immensely).

Everyone has a bad year. I'll give them a pass.

Yeah. **** the jests. I have no problem with the way things are turning out. It could always be worse.

respects,

Damn, it sucks losing Colvin. Big time.

He always seems to make big plays when we need them. He's just that type of player...

Are you friggin kidding me!!!!!!!!! Why can't this team stay healthy for a season? That is a HUGE blow to our already thin LB corps. Thank goodness the offense is setting records. They will really need to pick up the slack now.

I guess this makes it even with the Colts loss.

Relax. Injuries are part of football.

Would it be possible to trade Our draft pick in season for a an LB (say Jason Taylor) and maybe get a second round pick from a desperate team like Miami?

I am probably way off on this and I know BB/Pioli never make moves like this but just a thought....

Trade deadline is long gone (week 6).

True, but there's no denying this team typically has worse luck with injuries than most other teams.

I don't agree with that. Last year yes, but this year we've been far luckier than most other teams.

Crap. Losing Colvin obviously sucks, but from a starting 11 POV it's not that bad. I actually don't think there is much of a drop off when you move AD outside and replace him with Seau. AD was lost inside.

Only problem now is we are razor thin at depth at our oldest position. Another injury to the LBs will S-U-C-K.

I foresee a lot more 4-3 in the Pats future ...
