I believe Bill and Tiger have the exact same career goals . . . and it is NOT to have a perfect season or win many super bowls.

When asked what his #wins goal was Tiger responded by saying his goal was not to win championships but rather "to be the best that ever played the game".

I think Bill thinks the exact same way. His goal is to be the best football coach ever in history. To take a line from Lexus, Bill is on a journey for "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection." With this maniacal focus on executing plays to perfection the Wins are simply a statistical validation of the progress. Same is true for Tiger. He wants to own his swing and be able to hit perfect shots that no one else can even dream of hitting. His Wins also take care of themselves.

If you look at the Pats as trying to play "perfect football" for a full 60 minutes every game then you don't see them running up the score but simply driving themselves to strive for a perfect game.

This season is not about running up the score or having no class . . . it is about the pursuit for playing perfect football.

Barring any significant injury to Brady do not be surprised to see the Pats run the table this year and try for it again next. As Pats fans we are all privileged to be witnessing the pursuit. Can we ever ask for anything more?

Interesting thread and a great comparison. Those guys are alike in a lot of ways, there mentality, their approach - and I think there's certainly something to the idea that both strive for excellence as they see it, rather than others judge it. As you say, even in victory Tiger Woods or Bill Belichick are going to be looking for ways to get better and improve.

Interesting comparison. One other shared attribute of both of these champions (I would put Brady in there too, b-t-w). Both Tiger and BB are willing to throw out old ideas and overhaul completely to get to the next level, even when everyone else might be satisfied and complacent with recent victories. Tiger has gone through at least two major swing overhauls in the last 6-7 years to get more consistent accuracy and shot control while not sacrificing much distance. Similarly, Belichick had to do some overhauls: here are at least two I can think of:

-- After the 2002 season, in which the Pats went 9-7 and just missed the playoffs, he overhauled the defense to make it younger and more aggressive, with the big move being the release of Lawyer Milloy.

-- BB completely overhauled our receiving corps after the AFCCG last year, even though we missed going to the SB by a hair. He could see a new paradigm was needed, and was not afraid to tear down to rebuild something even more powerful.

When Jack Nicklaus goes to Heaven the Supreme Being offers him the empty seat next to him. When Tiger Woods goes and the heavenly father offers him the seat on his left, Tiger replies, Sir I believe you are sitting in MY seat!
