Jimmy's Value

Why would you say that? I think it likely BB keeps both.

When Jimmy's contract is up we will have to pay him and Brady 18-22 Million each. I don't see Belichick allocating 44 million of the salary cap to keep two quarterbacks.

Realistically I think the Pats are in the perfect position here. We don't "need" to trade Jimmy G. He has value to us both as a very good Backup to an aging TB and as trade bait.

We can trade him at the end of this year if the right offer comes along. But we won't be desperate to as he is cheap and a great backup is worth it.

If the market heats up after 2017 then no problems we can do exactly what we did with Cassel. Everyone thought it would be too expensive to Franchise him as well but we did it. Almost the exact same situation here.

We have a ton of time to decide. IMO if we get that deal we can't refuse then good on us take it and I wish him the best. If not no rush. As we have seen through the years you are one play away from needing your backup QB. Just ask the Cowboys, Minnesota, Browns e.t.c over the past 2 years.

Agreed, I wouldn't over think it. We have a GREAT backup the rest of this year or next. And we have an option for 2018 if the unlikely scenario of TB12 showing his age manifests. If someone wants to come in with an overwhelming offer, all the better.

Jimmy is also in a great situation and I hope he sees it.

Option A- If he stays till the end of the 2017 season, he will have spent another two years learning from the greatest coach and Qb of all-time and a team that kicks ass on an annual basis. I'm sure he wants to start but that ain't bad.

Option B- If hes traded after this year he will get a ton of cash and be a starting QB somewhere

Keep in mind Aaron Rodgers didn't play much his 1st 3 seasons either.

I agree with many of you. At this point, we have Jimmy G locked up for this season, as well as next season. We have seen what we need to see out of him(and so has the rest of the league). So when TB12 comes back in week 5, we see how he does. We see how he does next year. We see if he loses a step or 2 seeing how he will be 40 years old before starting next season.

We don't have to do ANYTHING right now with Jimmy G, or TB12. The team is in the best possible position. BB knows that Jimmy G has extremely high value right now, and he won't play again this year. he is already ruled out for Thursday and IMO, won't play next week either. So the only information teams have on him, is an absolutely STELLAR performance against the SB contending Cardinals, and his thrashing of Miami in just over 1 quarter of play.

So if some other team wants to offer us 2 1st rounders or better, than yeah, maybe consider it(assuming they will be high level picks). If not, just wait.

The real issue comes in 2018...when Brady is well past 40. In other words, we have the luxury of time on our side. We will also be able to make a better determination as to the level of play coming from a 40 and 41 year old TB12.

I really don't like the idea of trading Jimmy G. You would think TB isn't even suspended with he way Grop played yesterday.

I think you have to keep him, unless a team offers some crazy package like a high 1st and a 2nd. Granted the sample size is small, but he looked like an MVP type QB so far. And remember, he was extremely impressive in many preseason games, not just this year but before that. If there is chance that he is the next Aaron Rodgers, you keep him. Of course, there is no way he will be willing to sit for another three seasons. Maybe this year and next, but he got a taste of it now, and will want his own team.

I think the situation could get interesting with the Browns now losing McCown to what looks like a serious injury. Saying that, I am in the camp of waiting to the end of the year.

I have a couple of takes on this. At the end of the day, BB and McD are their on a day to day basis and know the real value

1) Jimmy's value is extremely high right now and he won't play the rest of the year so we could probably get a boatload. Teams have to pay for a QB and one that showed he can play at an elite level is nearly impossible to get. We should be able to get a 1st and a couple of 2nds and maybe more. McD will get a HC job next year, after his Denver experience he knows he needs a QB and he will pay.

2) Keep Jimmy until his contract expires next year and see what TB does.

I have no clue what they should do. My gut says trade and get the picks

If the Browns I trade my draft for Jimmy. They've been searching for 15 years for a QB and without one they have always been crappy even with talent.

People here are crazy. Sooner or later father time will catch up with tommy. I wish it wasn't the case but it will happen. How will brady's arm be when he's 40? Can he absorb a big hit at that age? I am not trading jimmy unless we get a good package. Maybe we can get a top 2 pick and draft a QB like brad kaaya from miami. I am high on him.

Depends on what the Pats think of JB. How he performs under adverse circumstances this week and possibly next. HE may be the future post Brady not JG.. BB has much better visibility than we do on this matter in BB I trust.

If Jimmy G can play vs Buffalo, and he has a game similar to the AZ & MIA games, I'd be very inclined to keep him and trade Brady. I'm probably overreacting here, but JG has looked incredible. He looks, at the very least, to be a consistent performer who makes smart decisions - a guy who can qb your team for 10 years, and the very best a pro bowl caliber qb. Look around the league, who's been better than JG? The list is very short....

I'm so pissed with this injury, not because of the ****ing week 3 game result but because I wanted to see him playing the 4 games. I'm sold on him, have seen enough but 4 games would solidify this position and create a crazy market situation, I would like to see what BB would do.

Those 4 games would dictate our future, playing like he did yesterday there is no way you trade Jimmy G. Now with 2 or 3 games tops, it won't change much but if he has a normal to difficult game against the Bills, things will settle down a bit. I don't know, maybe the game to struggle would be Houston, Fitzmagic torched the Bills secondary, Jimmy can do it for sure, 3 great games is a hell of a sample.

I'm not going in the trade bandwagon but I said it weeks ago that if Jimmy were to perform well the baseline is 2 1st round picks based on how teams are desperate for good QBs. Now after yesterday I reaffirm this position and would go even further like 2 1st and a 2nd. Good QB's stabilize a team for years, any smart GM would rather spend a fortune on a sure QB than keep trying to play the draft wheel of fortune.

on a longer term deal, Jimmy's cap number can be depressed on the first couple of years

I just don't think TB is going to be here all that long regardless of how well he plays.......1 more SB, and he could be retired by this time next year

the injury does help the pats longer term if their goal is to keep him
