AND NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I PRESENT TO YOU: THE "SOMEONE ASKED BB A DUMB QUESTION AGAIN" MOMENT!

Hard for me to imagine any QB who is previously unfamiliar with our system to be expected to pick things up sufficiently in 3 months, let alone 3 weeks. After all, if they're going to sign someone, they're taking up a precious roster spot for a reason, and that would almost certainly be to backup Jimmy Garoppolo ahead of Jacoby Brissett.

Any expectation of a trade should be tempered (IMO), unless there's some remote possibility of Belichick and Fox coming to an agreement for Hoyer. They'll be together watching each other's teams for the next 4 days, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but that would leave Chicago with a glaring need for their backup QB position with the season right around the corner.

What the hell is Matt Flynn up to these days? He's about the only guy I can think of right now who may be a realistic possibility. Last I checked he was a free agent, so apparently Belichick isn't in a hurry to bring him in.

watching sportscenter for whatever reason, they were showing pats practice footage.
that idiot john anderson kept taking little deflategate shots at tb12. ****ing *******

They are simply pathetic. There's no other way to put it. All we have to do is get through the next 6 weeks or so and this ******** should be behind us once and for all.

I don't remember hearing anything regarding Danny Amendola, but I could be wrong.

Amendola was at practice today but he wasn't wearing any pads. Only a practice jersey, which he was not wearing last week. Not really that much to go on, but a gradual step nonetheless. He's still on the PUP list to answer the question @Elijah asked.

Good stuff. Thank you. Sounds like he's slowly returning to health, and that progress was likely why Elijah asked to begin with. Great to be getting solid info from you. Thanks again.

Does anyone know just how briefly it was? I can't remember. Was it one/two preseason games? I can't imagine him making it any further than that, but I could be wrong. That's a lot of hype over the past year with very little to go on, along with improved competition at the position of CB.

I'm thinking that we're seeing another case of an overhyped player on the forum. Rarely has a player been redshirted and then come back for a productive season. I can't even remember the last player to be honest, at least on this team. I want to think maybe one of the early round TE picks (Watson or Graham), but even then I believe they played in a couple of games during their rookie season.
He had really strong whole preseason TC performance, very good in 1&1 drills, and maybe leader on PBUS or behind Butler. And i think that in the end he was over Logan Ryan on the chart. Just to BB put him to cover Jordy Nelson is a lot, but then they put him on IR with wrist injury. Dont know severity of this injury so maybe they didnt see much in him. Tarrell Brown was on the team.

They plan on opening the roof?

No humidity here and it will be a 5:30pm local start time. It may be warm but not like it was in Fort Foxboro today.

.....working hard to get in shape for opening game

You forgot the Golden Gameday Posting Rules:

OC sucks.
DC sucks.
Shoulda drafted my guy.

I'm sure I'm missing some too. There's a thread all its own "Most repeated Game Day Thread Memes" in there somewhere.

Yup. He just stretched, did warmups. Didn't even hang out with the wr group.

Bill may not have wanted to answer, but it wouldn't surprise me if a game managing veteran was brought in. It is obvious that Brissett is a project, with good basics like arm strength and mobility. If Chandler put JG out of the game in week one, then I'm not convinced BB would want Brissett in.

That doesn't mean he will...it just wouldn't surprise me.

I do t know how "the other Jones" could possibly be considered a lock. Practice squad maybe but for the 53 he is on the bubble at best.

That is the word from many writers who have watched practice all camp. They all say Jones is now a lock.

writers don't make the cuts and none of them are very accurate with their predictions of the final few guys.

I don't see how a small UDFA could be a lock at a very competitive position after one preseason game.
A lock would mean he can get toasted the next 3 weeks and still make the team. I don't think that's the case.

His wrist was broken.

Pats will have at least 5 CBs

Butler, Ryan, C. Jones and Coleman are locks. Which leaves 1 and the overwhelming opinion is J.Jones so far has been head and shoulders above the other non-locks.

Yes, most likely a competition for that last (5th) CB spot between J.Jones, Roberts, and LeBlanc. After only one preseason game, it's very difficult if not impossible to make a determination as to whose spot it is. The competition is good, particularly for the last CB spot, so that's all I'm really concerned with.
.

It's pretty easy to determine it based on practice reports, Jones is ahead of every non-lock at CB. Which if holds true throughout camp it would make him a lock

Well I have been on the J Jones train for a while and i always felt he was going to make the roster but was not nearly as confident until about a week ago. Also I think there are levels of locks and sometimes the term is used loosely. Brady is a lock. Mitchell is a lock. Is Mitchell a lock the way Brady is? No but considered a lock much the same. I would call James White a lock. Is he a lock the way Dion Lewis is? No but super likely to make it and him being cut would be a shocker at this point.

Lock is entirely subjective cause in reality no one is a lock. Things happen all the time in the NFL. Guys get hurt or fall off a cliff physically. When i use lock i use it as a term of expediency. To me a lock means pencil him in unless something changes. If you want to use the term lock in a more literal sense as earth shattering shocker then maybe we have only 25 locks. I use it in a bit of a broader sense.

Also I am very confidence J Jones will keep up and build on his level of play. He is the real deal imo. I always thought he would be a good NFL player. I am just surprised he caught up to the game as much as he has so quickly.

It's amazing to see the stark contrast in the CB talent pool compared to just three years ago. We couldn't find a guy to cover for more than 1.2 seconds just three years ago and now we are talking about unloading some solid talent because there is such a surplus at the position. Awesome

I'm not sure how there is a different definition of lock than no matter what happens he has made the team.
I think there is the possibility we only keep 4 corners as we have in the last. I think there is the possibility that jones is bypassed by another player for the 5th spot as we have seen happen with players who start out well but don't look so good later. I think there is also the possibility than jones competes for playing time because that opportunity is there. I haven't seen anything from him yet that would lock him in or out of anywhere from game day active to on the 53 to practice squad to cut. He still need to earn a spot. That's my opinion

I fear that this may actually be one of those situations where you think they're all good because they look so close, but they're all just similarly mediocre. Behind Butler and Ryan (who should not be considered money in the bank yet), there's a ton of wild cards and nothing to rely on. They could all easily not pan out. They could also easily end up as a good group, but I'm just not feeling that overjoyed about the current state of the CBs.

I also share this exact sentiment about this group of WR and G's, which people seem less optimistic about (actually, the WR group gets about as much love as the CBs).
