Steph Stradley on 2nd Circuit Deflategate hearing request

At some point Goodell, it's going to be the sacrificial lamb for the owners the question is when. I think they love having him take the bullets but at a certain point that won't work

As for Kraft he brought this on himself by bringing in Jets employee as commissioner and standing by praising him as they loaded the league office with jets employees and Patriot haters like Vincent. What really needs to happen next is a complete housecleaning using Tagliabue as a consultant for restructuring the league office with a competent and unbiased staff.

I really think the owners pushed Leiweke on Goody and his band of idiots to try and get that short bus (no offense to anyone intended) running efficiently and professionally.

They will dump Goody when they've come to the conclusion of two things 1) The gravy train will run fine without him and 2) The find someone better then Goody (I think it's Leiweke).

What hobby are you guys going to take up in 2020 when the CBA is up?

Looks like we'll have a lot of time on our hands.

Picketing outside of the NFL offices for Goodell to be fired, if the slug even lasts until then, sounds like a good plan. I'm in.

I love Steph Stradley, but this isn't one of her better written articles..

Its far from perfect but I'd rather go through the legal system here than anywhere else in the world.
If I was charged with a crime, I'd agree.

If I had a civil case needing to be adjudicated? Probably not.

Maybe the UK or France perhaps but I'm looking at it as a whole. Specifically, the quality of lawyers in the US are the best in the world.

If I got to choose between the two, I would rather depend on a superior justice system than on the quality of the lawyers. The reverse holds true for those that commit crimes. It is a sad state when the litigators who are considered the very best in a judicial system are the ones that excel the most at achieving unjust outcomes.

True. Also depends on the integrity of the judicial system. If they are incompetent, I'll take the lawyer. If they are corrupt, it doesn't matter unless your lawyer is in on the action.

Prediction: Owners agree to drop Goodell, Goodell overrules them and suspends the owners. Court reviews case and upholds Goodell's punishments.

Great post. I'm not going to continue on this topic strikes too close to my heart. Bailing before I start offending :)

I'm not a lawyer or in the judicial system so no worries. Takes a lot to offend me. :p

Think of this scenario.....if Tom wins the en banc/appeal, what does Goody do? Does he really want to take this to SCOTUS and have the NFL version of Vietnam carry on? I'm pretty confident that the owners do not want to have this kind of PR anymore....

If he decides to take this to SCOTUS, have it heard and lose I really think the owners are going to get serious about considering removing him as commissioner and I think that is what Bob wants as he knows his franchise will never get a fair shake with Goody and his NY brownshirts in power.

I'd be stunned if Goody is being allowed to make these decisions at this point.

It's not an indictment on you, I don't even think we disagree. When something puts fire into your blood, it is best not to discuss it in public, unless your ready to go to war. :)

I really don't know. I think you have a handful of very influential owners and a majority that kinda go along and are indifferent in league matters.

Up to this point they have let him call the shots but NFL v NFLPA/Brady in the United States Supreme Court is a whole different ballgame.

Thats fine. Moving on...

For me, it's a toss up between scrimshaw, Irish dancing and BDSM.

It's best not to do those things alone. Maybe you should rent a room in Northern New Jersey. That's what Jets fans do between August and February.

I posted this on another thread, as soon as the league added Clement to their team the NFL
PA should have brought Olsen in.

Or they should at least have had Steffen Johnson, also from Winston & Strawn, argue the Appeal. Kessler was in over his head and appeared unprepared for the questions he was asked.

But, yes, since Tulumello, from Gibson Dunn, had been part of the case since last spring, it would have been logical to bring in Olson or at least Dupree right away.

We'll never know what drove that decision since none of us were in the room when it was made, but I suspect there were some pretty big egos clashing.

I think he takes the temperature of guys like Rooney, Mara, and Jones and goes on from there, he's not flying solo.
