I saw a movie once where some Italian guys were hugging even though one of them was about to kill the guy he was hugging.

This is all great and it's better that he did this then that he didn't.
But, it's all yada, yada, yada...
The Court will discount this as the act of an owner who is in trouble with his fan base and who wants to preserve the viability of an Asset (TB) that he owns, who generates millions of dollars for him and who enhances the value of his Franchise by hundreds of millions...in other words, it will be disregarded.
Hopefully, a couple of clerks will even bother to read the footnotes that Stradley and others cite, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Unless Kraft is doing a lot more to poison the well behind the scenes, this is worth just a little more than the paper it is written on when it comes to impact.
Kraft had his chance to make a difference in San Francisco. He made his choice and set his priorities then. Everything else is just another unread footnote...Brady has been on his own since that day.

Just fiction but see my above example. Even though he should have known he didn't let himself believe it for most of season. And did it take him over a year to do it?

We likely will never know. But I choose to assume he was doing things to help TB and thought he could do it quietly ruffling the least amount of feathers. Clearly whatever he was doing didn't help so now he is trying a different approach. And that is why I'm upset with BK. It'll take a lot more than him (or his lawyers) filing a brief for me to forget just how buddy buddy he's been with Goodell the past year. While I'm glad he finally took a substantiable step towards backing our favorite person, the fact that for the past year he's been backing Goodell in all of this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, why now? What's changed?
No, it doesn't, because:
1) If you don't have a contract with your employer, your boss already can make **** up about you and get you fired. Heck, he doesn't even have to bother making things up. He can just fire you, period.
2) I'm willing to bet very, very few employment contracts or CBAs allow management to be the arbiter.
If the NFL/NFLPA CBA is in fact sui generis (or close to it) the judges may well feel that the litany of horribles in Olson's brief is a big yawn because in the 99.999% of CBAs that don't allow management to be the arbiter, there's no incentive for the arbiter to be an azzwipe and so those horribles will never happen.
Of course, Olson knows that too, so he phrases things in terms of the CA2 panel ruling causing "uncertainties" in the like for parties subject to arbi
I actually believe that the Chief Justice chacterizing the decision of his counterparts as a grave injustice will make it very hard for the rest of the panel to just dismiss it?
Maybe I didn't make my point clearly. We don't know what kinds of things he's tried behind the scenes. My point though is that he may have thought he would be able to help more making some behind the scenes deal or just trying to politic enough owners to force Goodell to give it up.
Clearly that didn't work so now he found something else more public and pretty harsh for Goodell and owners to do that can help. With hindsight we all wish he did from jump but he didn't know his backdoor stuff would fail so bad.
Obviously I am making some assumptions. But this move seems like more than just PR to me. And I choose to accept this as enough for me to forgive him and to believe this isn't the first thing he's tried to do to help TB.
If you don't I don't blame you as we have no idea up until this what he's done. I prefer to be a forgiving person as life is too short.
Or only 492 days too late
You don't get to 'not accept' the penalty.
He had plenty of time to re-assess, and plenty of opportunities to jump into the fray earlier. He continually chose his wallet over his player. He made this clear with the whole "full 32" garbage. Also, this isn't hindsight, since many were saying this from the jump. I don't know when it happened, but "hindsight" has become a horribly misused word around here, almost always used in defense of something where "hindsight" is either inaccurate or irrelevant.
You cannot have true forgiveness without there first being genuine repentance.
Does this mean the Patriots are actually joining the fray, or just a legal version of Kraft saying "I support Tom"? Just curious.
It's the players association, representing Brady, against the league. Kraft is part of the league, he cannot "join the fray."
Except that he did.
Can anyone here find one other example of a professional sports team joining legal action opposing their league on disciplinary action against one of their players.? I can't and as much as many want to dismiss this as insignificant I think it's a major FU to Goodell and the league and I have no doubt the 31 are fuming mad at Kraft for doing this. They told him to stfu and take his medicine and he's telling them to go screw themselves. Good for Kraft, he put his player above his relationship with the other owners and that's the right move in the right direction. I think people should call Patriot Place today and tell them they support this 100%, believe it or not they actually listen. Call and ask for media relations and they will get the message.
