I'm just really curious to see how much these two are in BB's future plans. You could even throw Rufus Johnson into this conversation as well.
I think both are not going to do too much this year unless they force BB's hand. Sheard/Long/Nink will see almost all the meaningful snaps. I do think the one we will see the most is Grissom as he played some pass rushing DT for the Pats when Easley went down. He is one of the only players with experience doing that.
Flowers has a longer road to go as he is a pure DE and not as flexible so he has to prove he is worth putting in and that we will not lose much doing so. I do expect to see more of both this year though.

I think I disagree. I think both will see significant time this season, especially considering what we lost up the gut of the D and the fact that Sheard is in a contract year and we all know by now not to presume anyone is a lock to be with this team from season to season. The young bucks will have to play to prove their worth in case we lose a combination of Sheard and Ninko. And then there's always injury. Why is Grissom not good?Flowers yes, grissom will not be good, but BB sees something in him so he ll be like tavon or Jake bequete..3 years on roster.

Flowers looked like one of the best players on the field last preseason. I was never impressed with Grissom, and I have him off the 53 right now.
You're going to cut a top 100 draft pick just a year later? Especially one who has some versatility with both DT and TE work? I'd be very surprised.
I'd just rather have Rufus Johnson at this point.
That's you opinion and you're entitled to it.ABSENT INJURIES
Flowers will get few reps. Ninkovich and Sheard are the starters, and Long is the #3. Grissom may get reps, as he did last year, playing inside on passing downs.
WITH INJURIES
next man up, as always
Yup. Dobson is still on this team. Think about that.It never fails to surprise me how quickly posters on here are willing to write players off and cut them. They're one year out of college and because they're not sack machines already they're JAGs? Learned nothing from the cut Edelman/McCourty/Chung etc episodes?
Why is Grissom not good?
Yeah, I think the answer is "we just don't know what the ceiling is on these guys". Either one might beat Long outright in training camp, and cost him his job. Either one might get dropped to the waiver wire.
For the camp of fans who never imagine that a player can be great until after he's great (e.g. the people who said Edelman couldnt fill for Welker, or that Collins was a bust after a quiet rookie year, or that Logan Ryan couldn't start on the outside in the NFL until after he did for a whole season), there's no chance that either one could ever fill Jones's shoes. But even Jones couldn't have filled Jones's shoes after his rookie year.
I'm of the camp that this coaching staff can coach just about any NFL caliber players up to an elite level... including guys who should only ever be bench-warmers. Three words to that effect: Tully Banta Cain.
We'll just have to see. I do think all of them, Rufus too, probably has more to offer than we've seen on game day.
