Replacing Jones with Chris Long plus a second rounder and an extra guard. Well played...
Add in an extra 2+ million if the reports regarding Long's deal are true.

Ninkovich and Long are older guys on contracts ending after this season. It feels like it's overhaul time.
I think they'll try to package one of the two second-round picks and #91 to move up in the second round to offset the draft position lost with the first that was stolen by Goodell somewhat. Of course depends on who will be available by then.A while ago thought that there would not be a lot of draft banter, but now 4 picks in the top 100 things have changed..

LOL...this dude was born to #DefendTheWall and be a Patriot!
Just think how it must feel to go from having to play for a sucky team your entire career and the first time you hit the market one of the best teams in the league sign you.
If anything could remotivate someone, that's it.
Patriots trade Jones for Cooper and a 2nd
Patriots sign Long
Patriots open up more than $2 million in cap space
Patriots also get possible comp pick for Cooper in the future
=
Epic win on paper
I did. Thought DAL was going to overpay.Did anyone doubt this would be coming, once the Chandler trade was announced?
I don't follow you logic. The team gets a 2nd this year instead of a 3rd in the 2018 draft.I agree, seems like a win. But in the interest of full disclosure, we should include the possibility of losing the comp pick we would have gotten for Jones after this year too, which would likely be higher than what we'll get for Cooper.
Why can't this be the case for more free agents? It used to be.According to P King
Long, the second pick in the 2008 draft, has made approximately $103 million in his eight NFL seasons. He has a sick amount of money put away, and he doesn’t care much about money anymore. This season—this contract—was about going somewhere he was going to have a good chance to win. In his eight NFL seasons, the Rams never had a winning year. So missing out on an extra $2 million or $3 million this year in Atlanta, Detroit, Washington or Dallas was no big deal to Long. What I found interesting in the Long sweepstakes was the attitude of a couple of team officials I spoke with who wanted Long. Their feeling was if he visited New England, and if Belichick wanted him, there was no way they had a shot to get him. And it turns out they were right. Long, for instance, loved Dan Quinn, the Atlanta coach. And the Falcons would have paid Long markedly more to play there. But the lure of playing with Belichick and Tom Brady swayed Long.
If Peter King's right and he would've gotten 5-6 million from Atlanta/Dallas/etc then it shows that for once we got a veteran player who indeed values a winning situation over money.I did. Thought DAL was going to overpay.
What makes you say that? Not to pile on Chandler because he brought a lot but I think Long will pair with Ninkovich much better in terms of leadership. We will miss Chandler on the field at times but will still be good at DE and have another good vet leader for a young defense.

He included the comp pick that we could potentially get from Cooper as a positive for us, but didn't include the comp pick we potentially lose from Jones as a negative. So the equation should go:
Out = Jones, comp pick in 2018
In = Cooper, 2nd round pick in 2016, Long, comp pick in 2018
Nit picking, I know.
