Do you think this season offers a good reason why an 18 game season would be a bad idea? As we can see, plenty of injuries happen during a 16 game season, but even more are bound to happen during an 18 game season.

Right, but in an 18-game season you'd have two bye weeks in which to heal.

And they should lighten up on the draconian IR rules if they're going to make the season longer.

Good point by adding that in there. I"m not sure why they can't keep a 16 game schedule and add another bye week though.

Obviously we have felt the injury bug here in New England, but it's everywhere this year. We've seen the Matt Hasselbeck's and Matt Cassel's of the world more than we've seen the Luck's and Romo's.

We've even had two quarterbacks who have recorded starts for two separate teams in a season, Ryan Mallett and Brandon Weeden. I can't imagine that happens all too often.

An 18 game season is a 12.5% increase in the number of games. I predict about 25%-30% increase in the total number of injuries because of the wearing down effect.

One of the good things about an 18 game season from an ownership perspective:

I vote yes. More football! Put 3-4 byes in if you must. There would be football on for 9 months out of the year.

Maybe get rid of the preseason. Or make it voluntary i.e., clubs can set up scrimmages if they want them.

Until injury prevention advances dramatically, there should be no more than 16 games in a season. For anyone who is knowledgeable about football and cares about the quality of the product on the field, it is a no-brainer.

Until the culture changes and these buttercups masquarading as football players learn to suck it up and play through some of this more minor crap than I say no. Our society is turning into a bunch of ****!%s who fold the tent at the first sign of a hangnail and the toughest sport is a reflection of that.

Once it turns into 2-hand touch or it becomes boy-in-bubble ball no problem. Make it an 80 game season for chrissakes. That's the way it's headed anyway. That and the injury rules are idiotic. If a guy is healed up and ready to go why not make it so you can take him off IR ANYTIME?

The days of the old school tough guys is gone. No were stuck with a bunch of pampered millionaires with flea-sized ball sacks.

I'm an Iron Worker so spare me the crybaby "what if you got this injury?!?" fairy crap.

-Leave it at 16 games
-Get rid of all overseas games
-Get rid of 1 Wild Card in each conference - make the Bye a unique prize for the best record
-NO FOOTBALL TEAM IN L.A.!

My sarcasm meter is a little off today, but you're being sarcastic, right?

Same "no" landslide as when I did one of these a couple years ago. I'll say now what I said then--here you have a group of people who love football and are following a great team, so more than just about anyone else would say yes to more games--saying no.

18 games is a horrible idea.

edit: messed up then & now...

I agree with the guy that stated we need to dump games overseas.

F.ck that. More than anything else this will kill my interest in the NFL. Greedy m.ther****ers.

Have you ever played football before? The generation of "tough guys" you speak of are suffering from Cte, there families are suffering and they are committing suicide. They live in wheel chairs and they can no longer function. Your a solid poster and this isn't a personal attack, but this post is extremely incentive and not accurate in my opinion. What we know about brain trauma has changed in the past 15-20 years.
