ESPN Writer Compares Greg Hardy Supporters To Patriots Fans Who Defended Tom Brady In DeflateGate

Are you suggesting that Hurley (the author of this article) is an idiot, or that Jane McManus (a woman), the ESPN writer who said this on Mike and Mike this morning, is an idiot?

I was listening to M&M this morning (I still catch them once in a while on my way in to work; they piss me off sometimes, but mostly I enjoy them). I was instantly furious when she said this. She totally missed the mark, and her attempt to backtrack on twitter afterwards is pathetic. There is no comparison to fans defending their team against unsupported assertions and/or a totally f'ed "investigation" and cover up by the NFL, with fans defending their team for signing a monster of a human being and then continuing to support him with oblivious and blind faith. Separately, I note that the Pats immediately cut Hernandez upon learning of his potential criminal behavior.

Furthermore, she assumes that all Cowboys' fans will support their team no matter what. Perhaps some will, but I have friends who are Cowboys fans that still love their team, but hate Hardy and think Jerruh has totally messed up here.

I understand the point she was making but it was an awful analogy to use.

And I don't agree with it anyway, I think a lot of fans won't always blindly wave their pom poms for the team regardless of circumstance.

Forget the ridiculous of the comparison of the infractions. There is differences in the defenses. There is no doubt that Hardy beat his girlfriend. Even many unbiased (or even biased against the Pats) observers like Florio, Peter King, etc. question whether the league set up Brady and the Pats and whether there is any real evidence of a cheating scandal.

No matter how she tries to spin it after the fact, she is still equating Pats fans having the same poor judgement for defending Brady as Cowboys fans for beating up his girlfriend. This will probably earn her a performance bonus from her employer, ESPN.

Actually, her point cuts both ways.

Fans will blindly attack as well, not only defend.

So her point is moot.

Since fans will adopt any stance, attack or defend, what we should focus on is an evaluation of the facts.

Sadly, the outfit she works for is one of the worst when it comes to that, which makes her a hypocrite for not attacking ESPN.

her stance is insane.

We defended brady because he didn't do anything wrong. Want to see how patriots feel about violent criminals? Look for one defense post about aaron hernandez.

This woman has zero credibility.

I refuse to even acknowledge her idiotic correlation of the two issues.

Shes better off trying to compare ISIS to the Girl Scouts.

Currently, McManus covers the NFL’s New York Jets for ESPN.com and writes columns and features for espnW, a part of the website which covers women’s sports and represents female sports fans.

I understand the overall point she was trying to make, but she was way off base here. She should just apologize rather than continuing to make a fool of herself on twitter.

But what else would you expect from ESPN who still has not apologized for reporting false information creating such a stir over deflategate while continuing to employ Ray Lewis. They have as much integrity as Roger.

This from said Peter King's MMQB this morning (my emphasis towards the end). Link to full article below.

“The Wells Report, such as it was, was a piece of astonishing garbage. I mean, just because a report is produced at great cost by a fancy-sounding law firm and a lawyer with a long reputation does not mean it clarifies the issues or represents an intelligent and thoughtful analysis of the issues. That report was just bull----. It’s just, like, ordered up by the NFL’s office to cover their disastrous decisions.”

—Author and journalist Malcolm Gladwell, on the Bill Simmons podcast last week.

"I figured that a smart person engaging in logic would see some holes in the NFL’s case. Despite significant scientific claims to the contrary when he upheld Tom Brady’s suspension in July, Roger Goodell went strong with his belief that air was removed from the New England footballs deliberately before the AFC Championship Game. “At least a substantial part of the decline was the result of tampering,” he wrote. And though the Wells Report used the words “more likely than not” in describing Brady’s involvement, Goodell went much further. “Mr. Brady knew about, approved of, consented to, and provided inducements and rewards” supporting a system of tampering with the game balls, Goodell wrote. I have felt for some time that Goodell going from probably to absolutely, without further evidence to support the jump, will be a haunting point in this case."

There were a lot of posts defending Aaron Hernandez. I don't feel like digging them up, but we have our jackasses, too.

Why do we care about what ESPN thinks?

It's like caring what ISIS things about Americans. Who gives a F?

As a for instance, there haven't been any stories from league sources about the Pats @mortreport lately.
