OT:It Begins. Eifert tongue bath

He has a decent shot, and good for him if he does. Not all records are held by great players. Flipper Anderson still owns the greatest receiving day in the history of the league o_O
Who the Hell gives up 336 receiving yards to one receiver and calls themselves professionals remains a mystery..

I think this all needs perspective.

NFL to TV announcers before each game = "Hey guys, make sure you over dramatize everything and embellish and exaggerate" "We want controversial comments and stuff that will ignite conversations of football fans everywhere." We want debates to rage on and just want people talking about football"

Gronk, Eifert and Olsen are arguably the top three TE in the game right now.

The media is complimenting him on having a breakout year and being a key part of a team that is 8-0 while leading the league in TDs, so we Pats fans have to immediately create a thread to bash him? What has Tyler Eifert ever done to deserve this besides play football well..?

PS pleeeeease tell me that no one truly thinks an 8 year journeyman like Barnidge is a better TE than Eifert..

He's having a better season, that's all people are saying. Not a knock on Eifert, just a knock on reactionary hyperbole these days.

I just don't get it...when will people realize, it is good when players and teams get (over)hyped. Then they feel the weight of expectations and often crumble under the pressure. The Bengals and Broncos getting a lot of national recognition is exactly what the Patriots need and want. Under the radar teams that don't get lavished with praise are often times the ones who suddenly "get hot" during playoff time.

This is the Not For Long league. Probably the number one reason it is the Not For Long league is because there are so many flashes in the pan who are unable to handle success/changing schemes/being the center of the spotlight and the focal team of their team's offense.

No idea why people get so upset when they should be celebrating this. You should want every expert hyping up the Broncos defense as unstoppable, Andy Dalton as the best quarterback in the AFC, Tyler Eifert as the best TE in football, etc. etc. Last year it was the Colts being completely revamped and the "team of destiny" followed by a Seahawks secondary that could not possibly give up a fourth quarter lead and a young quarterback who was the most clutch who ever lived. How did that work out?

Irony is fabric of the NFL.

Eifert and Reed aren't similar TEs at all. Jordan Reed is a move TE like The-Name-That-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned was. Even weirder is that Jordan Reed and The-Name-That-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned both went to Florida and both grew up in Connecticut.

EDIT: It looks like even Mike Reiss is riding the hype train (probably forced to by ESPN) and is also trying to compare Eifert and Jordan Reed. Sigh. Patriots prepare for Tyler Eifert-type test in Washington TE Jordan Reed

I just have one question. Can he block?

Make room, Rob Gronkowski, Tyler Eifert is on the tight end scene, too

"Whether you believe Eifert deserves to be regarded in the same breath as a tight end of Gronkowski's caliber or not, you must know that all of this has been a long time coming for him."

Eifert is good. I get it. Until he drags 3 or 4 guys 10 yards into the end zone we can speak Gronks name. Once he can seal off a good defensive end on a run play, he can talk.

Jimmy Graham lite 2.0. Nothing more.
This is the ESPN method of generating clicks and attention. They draw more attention to the article by saying something stupid like "Move over Gronkowski" than they would by simply giving an article talking about how talented Eifert is.

Eifert's playing great, Dalton has elevated his game, AJ Green is among the best WRs in the league, and their defense is stacked at all 3 levels.

That said, they were lucky to squeak by Baltimore and San Diego, had no business winning that Seattle game (at home), and were handed the game against Pitt on a couple of really dumb throws by Ben. They could easily have 3 or 4 losses right now, in which case, no one would be talking about them.

But good teams find a way to win, and Cincy has been resilient...they are a good team. I am very much looking forward to their game in Denver later in the year, but even with declining skills, I think Manning is more likely to find a way to win than Dalton is...

Yet? Nobosy will be IMO. Gronk has rocketed by all the Hall of Fame TEs already. Who knows where his stats will end up.

They also have this Ghost guy who could end up being the GOAT kicker if he sticks around another 10 years. He will be certainly up there when all said and done.

Question: is there a likely chance that Ghost has the same experience as Automatic Adam? I seem to forget why the Pats let that great kicker go.

Ghost will never be in the do or die clutch moments that AV was but Ghost overall is a better kicker.

AV went to the Colts and did not give the Pats a chance to match the offer. It is suspected that AV did not like being tagged the previous year.

Under the salary cap back then, he wanted too much per year around 3.5 iirc.

A little off topic here, but I feel Marvin Lewis should get the Marty Schottenheimer treatment in 06 this year. If he loses right away in the playoffs again, even if his team finishes 13-3 or so, he should be out the door.

I doubt Mike Brown will do that.

YES YES YES.

And who can blame them. I mean, the product stinks this year. The only time I hear about great ratings are when the Pats play. Didn't they have record ratings for last Thursday night?

They need to generate interest in other teams/stars if the popularity of the NFL is going to continue at this level. I didn't even turn on the game last night. I went straight to bed. The product is flat out lousy this year.

A couple years ago, Kaepernick was being hailed as a future GOAT by Ron Jaworksi. Today, its this Eifert guy. SSDD.
