OT was letting both Talib and Revis sign elsewhere a good decision?

They're getting way too much in our standards. Letting them go was really our only option.

But I still dislike letting Browner go. We 're still playing man coverage (excpet for this last game). Even if he was/is prone to a lot of fouls, his salary was excelent for a number 2 corner of his caliber.

Context should also be added to this question. If you were to keep one or both, what other big time player in Defense or Offense would you have cut or not extended?

They left and I am fine with it. Revis gave up an easy td yesterday so give our guys some slack when they mess up every once and a while.

The only way we could have kept Revis is to spend 25 million on the franchise tag, which would have been a colossal mistake. We thought he would stick around for 12.5ish a year. We were wrong. It was his decision to leave, we didn't cast him off.

You mean the 2nd year option, which was 20 million.

The franchise tag for CB for 2015 was a little more than 13 million dollars.

Revis is arguably having the best year of his entire career with 3 INTs, 3 fumble recoveries, and 3 passes defended through only five games.

It seems as though he took his raw talent and meshed that with better coaching lessons learned from his time last year.

Either way, we weren't going to sign him to that kind of money, and the NYJ may only see 2-3 years of good/decent play, so it's time to move on like you said.

Both he and Talib (2 defensive touchdowns already this year) are playing lights out, though.

If DMC or Harmon didn't provide over the top help you'd be seeing what is happening in NO to him here.

That's correct, and probably what he meant. But just as a side note, the tag for Revis next year would actually have been in the twenties.

The cap hit for franchising Revis in 2016 would have been 30 million dollars, since it would be either 1) the average of the top 5 salaries of the position OR 2) 120 percent of his 2015 cap hit. Although his salary was 20m dollars, his 2015 cap hit would've been a staggering 25m. That's why they chose to save 20m dollars, even with the 5m dead cap hit.

I don't think anyone should be bringing that up. It wasn't remotely possible. They were either going to strike a deal this past spring or move on. No chance of franchise tag for 2016.

right now, both are CaRRYING there teams to 6-0 and 4-1 records because of there outstanding playmaking ability.

Would have been nice to keep one of them long term, especially with our CB depth being very thin
Yes it was a good decision.

Are you arguing that it wasnt?

I am glad you brought Harmon up, because i think he would be a great support for Browner. He has developed nicely. That is my line of thought too. Browner and Harmon locking up a side, McCourty and Butler in charge of other areas would be a better alternative than what we have in Ryan and the other CBs ( i will admit that Logan played very well yesterday, so maybe we are on to something)

Browner is once again leading the league in penalties. He's out of control.

Well, to be fair, Saints are in disarray. Like I said, he is prone to a lot of fouls, but I still would like him back, specially now that Brown is gone

Not at $4m yr.

The secondary doesn't look any worse than last year's at this point in the season. I'm happy with their decision not to spend wildly on one player in a sport where injuries are so prevalent.

Signing Revis would have completely ruined the economic structure of this team... to have CB make that much more than Brady would have been absurd...

Talib made more sense, but he followed the money.. not much you can do, the Pats made a fair offer and he chose to walk away..

This reminds me of the whole SUH fiasco, 28 million dollar cap hit next year?? Indy has Luck and Hilton coming in at 29 million next year and Fleener and Costonzo also need to get paid..

Our entire offense is already locked up for 2016.. gotta take a long view on all of this.

Many teams are in the pay me now, live for today mode of team building.. the Pats choose a different approach.

It's not just that the question about Revis has been asked and answered on this board about a dozen times, it's that your entire premise is wrong. Revis (or Talib) are not CARRYING their teams, nor anything close to it.
