From rulebook, deflated ball fine 25k to the team.

That it.....

This is completely wrong. Read the rulebook again. The penalty can include a 25k fine, but it is NOT limited to a 25k fine. The rulebook leaves the punishment wide open.

Scouring Twitter, FB and some message boards and the consensus seems to be more along the lines of "laughable."

Tons of memes and things of that nature out there. A small minority might actually believe the Pats cheated to gain an advantage, but most of it is humor and/or poking fun at the Patriots in a non-serious matter.
Agreed. Most ex players and analysts are mocking this. When the results come back tomorrow that the Pats did nothing wrong, Kravitz, Rosenberg Florio and the like will get hammered pretty good. Rosenberg is getting killed by the Boston media already. Gresh just retweeted a pic showing that the view of the CBS screen from the Pats sideline is completely blocked by the bridge.

My sources are telling me that Goodell will suspened the Ball Boy's parking pass and make him pay to park for all eight home games next season as punishment.

That will teach him a lesson.

What I fear the most is the scenario where the league finds no evidence that the Patriots altered any balls and the Patriots in actuality did not commit any wrongdoing. In this scenario, the league comes out and announces they could not find any evidence of foul play on the Patriots part. This will not alleviate the perception from the media and other fans that they still committed the act, but they just weren't nailed for it. As a result, the Patriots will again be seen as Goodell's "favored" franchise. It will be the same situation as the allegations of taping the Ram's walkthrough almost a decade earlier. While there is no proof that ever happened, it has entered our popular culture as a "fact." This would be extremely unfair to the team, players, fans and ownership.
As soon as it got put out there it's lose-lose as far as opposing teams perception goes. Matters not. They hated us before, so what's the difference? A shiny 4th Lombardi will only increase their hatred and jealousy.

Fine by me!:D

My fear is due to all the recent scandals people claim he hid under the rug he will execute the team everyone loves to hate our beloved Patriots.
My thought is this is guilty til proven innocent and its going to take more evidence to exonerate us then to punish us.
I think he gives the people what they want stripped of 2 firsts million dollar fine.
Forefitng a win it wouldn't shock me and hate to say if it happens I'm done supporting the NFL no Sunday ticket. Gear or anything NFL licensed.
Its just ridiculous.

Breaking news. Another scandal has erupted. When will it stop?!?

We have some of the most sensitive fans in professional sports.

Yet on the crawl on the bottom of the television screen, espn is claiming that the Patriots could lose multiple draft picks if the NFL decides they did something wrong.

Based on past history you know the world wide leader is frothing at the mouth and plans to make this into something bigger than it is.

That's how it happened last time with Spygate. ESPN led the charge for heavy punishment for the Pats.

Ok this is getting out of control.
He cannot punish the Patriots without evidence and guilt, of which there is none.
This will end as 'we investigated and found no irregularities'. Mark my word.

If we get docked a pick or worse i will be livid.
All quiet on the tampergate front where we have visual and audio evidence.
And has the ability to impact us for years.

Don't the Pats have lawyers they can sic on the league?

I think the Pats took one for the league during Spygate. Bob Kraft should let the league know, publicly, that they better have their ducks in a row if they try to hammer the Pats again, particularly given the leniency and ignoring of incidents committed by other teams.

What I've taken from this thread is:
- The Patriots had game balls that were tested by refs (in approx. room temp coniditions) and found in compliance with the PSI threshold two hours before the game
- Around halftime, after playing in wet 40 degree weather, the Colts complained a ball that was intercepted was underinflated
- Basic science explains that temperature alone will naturally cause the ball to go under the testing threshold for weight
- Teams are not allowed by the NFL to heat balls or do anything artificial to them, so there's no way to counteract the natural decrease without breaking rules
- The refs remove balls at halftime and replace the "deflated" balls
- The Pats then proceed to outscore the Colts 28-0 in the 2nd half with the new balls
- A "reporter" (term used loosely) from Indy makes a stink on Twitter, and now major networks / sites that hate the Patriots are controlling the narrative leading up to the Super Bowl.

Yup. Makes complete sense that all non-Patriots fans panties are in a bunch over this and not an owner that blatantly broke tampering rules.

This is a lot like the movie idiocracy. "You're not foolin' me with that Pv=nrt mumbo jumbo!, I know cheatin' when I see it!".

There's only one reasonable course of action to be taken at this point. Deflated footballs obviously will necessitate the full breadth of all governmental investigation agencies. Our nation is inperil!!!!

This whole thing is exhausting. Even just reading the posts about it. Hopefully this blows over quickly.

Is this true ? It makes sense that they'd re-check them and re-inflate or replace but I haven't read that this happened. Of course, 71 pages in, missing something isn't all that surprising.

this is unreal. was watching fox last night and megyn kelly did a segment about this with lawyers and ****.

lol

do you think that Pete Carroll appreciates the Colts kicking the bee's nest?

what happens when they point fingers? what do you think will happen to 'beast mode' when 'eff you' mode comes rolling into town

I think the haters should realize that the last thing they want is the anger that comes with the focus
