Tom Brady Restructures Contract - shifts $24 million

So you think the 07 Pats would loose to ANY team in a 7 game series? let alone a mediocre 9-7 giants team that got so many miracle plays.

Same with 11 giants. Welker drop, manningham catch, Gronk being injured.
One of my friends who is a life-long Giants fan told me the day after the 07 SB that he thought the Pats would win 9 of 10. But, it's not 9 of 10. It's 1 and the Giants deserved it. Just don't appreciate those who basically lie saying they're Pats fans (hello Rhody Patriot) when they're not.

So does this not save any cap? What was the point of this then?

I wonder if this means that the negotiations with either McCourty or Revis (or both even) are further ahead than we thought. There is no need to do this now. Why not wait until the offseason when this really becomes necessary i.e. when the team is working on contracts with our FAs ?

All of this makes me cautiously optimistic that we will get something done with McC and Revis rather sooner than later.

As currently being reported, there is no point. That's why it makes no sense. Either the story is wrong or there is more to the story.

Of all those listed, Wilfork may be the most "un-likely", after the fiasco early this year...

perhaps but the team has a long track record of not having big cap numbers and big salaries tied up 34 year old players who do not wear #12.

Mayo is "more-likely" coming off injury and he has many more yrs on his contract. 10.6million against cap in 2015. 10.4million in 2016. If not, he can be a candidate to get traded and resign Ayers for cheap. I suspect he will be either released or traded in 2015.

Solder can be extended and push $$ towards back-end new contract.

We can all forget about Amendola.

Vollmer has a 6.2million cap hit for 2015. He can be same as Solder.

Mayo will restructure or be gone. Same for Amendola.

I don't see the Pats paying Solder $7m next year- not after this past season.

Vollmer they will try and re do. He'll be 31 at the start of camp. Tough one though...

Really?? Brady is 0 - 2 vs the Giants already. What makes you think he'd figure out that defense and would elevate his game??
Tom Brady "restructures". He still gets his money. Hold off on the sainthood campaign.

We already know how you feel about Tom Brady:

"Mentally tough?? Definitely in his younger days. Now?? There was no mental toughness during the 2nd half of the Chiefs game when Brady threw in the towel and flat out quit. Spent the first 4 weeks pouting like a 6 year old and had his camp spinning tales in the media.
Was that mental toughness during the last minute of the Super Bowl in 2007 (amazing how overlooked that sequence of plays has been over the years) when the Patriots got the ball back, had timeouts to use, had close to 50 secs on the clock and only needed a FG to win it all. Brady made NO attempt to work the ball down the field to get into FG range. All he did was chuck it long to Moss like he couldn't wait to get off the field.
Tom Brady has not been "Joe Cool" on the field for several years now.
Mental toughness delivered Tom Brady today against the Buffalo Tomato Cans?? o_O
Come on guys."

We get it RhodyPatriot, you don't like Brady.

This move does nothing for Brady. Does nothing for team cap wise if they keep him. It allows the team to release him anytime for the next three years. I guess he can get a big 1 year deal like manning level money. Maybe he rather be released instead of traded in case the team loses its damn mind and thinks he's done

Not a fan of solder, wouldn't mind seeing a better player in his spot. Is he really worth 7.5M?????
if you asked me in 2013-yes. This year...meh...not really.

As part of the restructure, the Patriots added an extra $1 million to each of the base salaries in Brady’s contract, per a source. Brady will now get $8 million in 2016, $9 million in 2016 and $10 million in 2018. That is still a significant bargain for the team based on market rates. But more than that for Brady, what he hopefully gains is better players around him as the team can now spend more on key players.

They are setting up for Revis and Mccourty $ plus more. GREAT news

BTW, RhodyPatriot, you were the one who fell for the Michael Silver story that everyone else can now see was baloney:

"The real Tom Brady is starting to reveal himself.
The heat is on Tommy so now we've got media members publicly airing the whisper campaign coming from Brady and Co. about lack of weapons and coaches and blah.....blah.....blah....
Time to "man up" Tommy Brady....if possible. ;)"

So, obviously, we know where you are coming from on this subject.

I believe we can all agree that Number-12 will be the starting QB for the Patriots in 2015 season.

Let hope BillB does not blow the $$$ on crappy-players and BEEF UP (upgrade) the OL.

Gisele must have ran up a X-Mas bill beyond the family's budget.;)

Lot of Brady ball-washing in Reiss' reports. Brady is not renegotiating contracts out of the goodness of his heart or "to help the team surround him with weapons" or to improve Krafty's cash flow. Trading the skill part of the guarantee for an extra million a year might make sense from Brady's standpoint. The Pats were never going to cut him. Trade was the only rational option and this doesn't change the trade ramifications one iota. If anything, it makes a trade a little easier because the new team wouldn't be on the hook for a three year guarantee, either.
