Pats in/had discussion with Hartwell (per MetroWest Daily News)

Perhaps the hold up w/ Hartwell is whther or not we trade a #1 for Briggs.

You never know, esp. the way the rest of this offseason has been.

My point was that I didn't want this possible signing to be viewed as a long term answer. But Bruschi and Hartwell with a young guy behind them would be mighty appetizing. I would be very happy if Vrabes could play primarily outside.

My question is where does that leave Thomas and Colvin? If Thomas isn't used inside, then we got one too many starting OLBs on the roster. Vrabel, Colvin, and Thomas? I'm sure BB knows what he's doing, just curious to see where he puts them.

Aren't both of Hartwell's kness shot? That's pretty scary. If he's truly got no knees, he's gonna get beat off the ball unless he can play through some major pain. Bone on bone ain't easy to run on.

Of course, for a one year deal, the only problem is that he takes a roster spot. Maybe we can finally dump Marquis Hill? After all, the pictures Marquis has of BB with that woman in NJ can't be worth too much with the rumor of a settlement. :D

you can never have too many lb's and three man old rotation would be good to keep players fresh and injuries alway happen

the bottom line is the pats have to add more speed on defense. so far all they've added is AD and they have players returning from injury. they need another speed lb whether inside or outside and i'd like to see an addition in the 2ndary

I think they will wait until after the draft and then bring in one more vet, choose from the usual list.
Seau, Gartner, Hartwll, Mitchell, etc.

"Next comes inside linebacker. Tedy Bruschi is the only player certain to play full-time there with Mike Vrabel and Thomas having the versatility to move over and the gutsy veteran isn't quite what he once was.

There are options there. Veteran Edgerton Hartwell has had preliminary talks with the team, is willing to come in on a one-year deal and has the size and 3-4 experience to make it work, so long as he stays healthy.

Hartwell (still just 28) could provide at least an early-down stopgap, if a rookie's drafted somewhere. That rookie, in fact, could well be Ole Miss' Patrick Willis with the 24th pick. But whoever it may be, if there is someone, would probably need to be eased into a very difficult position for a young player to take on."

If this were to happen, my offseason would be pretty much complete.

Interesting...and it MAY be a good deal for the team...since they were not interested in him 2 years ago..MORE when they were looking at a RedyB replacement...maybe looking for a TJ replacement might fit him better. Let us see,,,

Hartwell would be a reclamation project. But he could have some left in the tank since he's only 28. Depends on his health. I say sign Seau and Hartwell for cheap, then cut Marquise Hill or trade him for somebody else's disappointment (like the bethel trade) for a looksee. That leaves us with plenty of options in the draft, such as taking Spencer as BPA even though he's not an ILB.

Vrabel, Colvin, McGinest worked out pretty well.

We're so used to being paper thin at LB it's hard to remember when we had options and everyone was fresh and available to rush the QB.

Except there hasn't even been a single rumor the Pats were interested in trade for Briggs. The closest thing to a rumor is Peter King suggesting in his column that a team, perhaps the Pats, offer trade for him. Last time I checked, Peter King wasn't making personnel decisions for the Patriots.

Sounds like a Vincent Brown situation. IIRC he played 6 years tops, and then he was out of the league. His knees were shot.

Bring him in with a incentive ladden deal and see what happens..

One more post so I'm not stuck on the Number of the Beast.

Just FYI, recent research has identified the "number of the beast" as being more likely to be all 7's rather than all 6's, due to a misinterpretation of one of the many editors of the text.

More crap, just like the davinci code and the tombs of jesus's family.

I agree...always better to have more in rotation and fresh than players worn out and dragging...

Make a contract with incentives based off of playing time.

There are differing opinions concerning the Pats interest in Hartwell.

Albert Breer seems to think there may be some mutual interest. I

posed the question to Mike Reiss in his mailbag. He acknowledged

that Hartwell's agent had approached the Pats but the Pats showed

no interest.
