I honestly could give a rats ass about the penalty or for that matter the loss, the fact is this team is going to make the playoffs and all that really matters is we get healthy, improve are execution and develop the young players. What annoys me about the penalty is it put a player that should have walked away from the game hearing nothing but praise and accolades and puts him in a position to receive of blame and hear negativity.

Chris Jones has been playing at a level that we have not seen since Mike Wright was here in terms of penetrating and getting to quarterback from an inside position, today he had 10 combined tackles and 2 sacks, in the last 3 games he’s had 18 combined tackles and 3.5 sacks. Those numbers are unbelievable, obviously it will never happen but they project out over 16 games to 96 combined tackles and 18.5 sacks.

If the Houston Texans aren’t kicking themselves for not retaining their 6th round draft pick then I am question their organizations sanity, Chris Jones is a keeper and this poor call should not take from the praise and accolades this young man deserves.

I loved the signing of Chris Jones. Though he played at Bowling Green, you still don't see many interior lineman have 12 sacks in a season. He already has 3 1/2 in 4 NFL starts. He's just a very talented young man. I'm very excited about his potential.

He was actually waived twice—first by Houston and then by Tampa Bay.

IIRC, the Patriots actually put in a waiver claim on him the first time, too.

Good deal for us, the kid already has as many sacks as Deaderick and Love combined for all of last season.

The penalties real downside is it steals the spotlight of a great game by Chr...

Be nice to see how effective he'll be with Kelly next to him. You can't overstate the magnitude of this find if Jones pans out long term - that's one DT pick we won't have to make next draft.

And remember - interior rush was one of this teams weak links.

Good to see you've come around on him. Put ones in the right situation and he's a real find. He'll be even better when he doesn't have to play NT or 3-4 DE.

This guy is a freaking beast. Wilfork is the linchpin of line, but chris jones pops off the screen like jj watt.

Here's some interesting numbers:
vince wilfork had 48 tackles and 3 sacks in 2012
chris jones has 18 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 4 games

jj watt has 34 tackles and 4.5 sacks this year.

I don't think this can be over stated. Both Jones and Vellano have really stepped up in the absence of Wilfork and Kelly. Would have been a terrific rotation if healthy.

Maybe these 2 rookies will prove those of u mocking DT in round 1 wrong.

Well said! Jones and Vellano appear to be the complete opposites of Love and Deaderick unlike those two they're high motor players who are all over the field and involved in every play.

I admit that I was way off on him after the Bengals game, I was ignorant in terms of him as a player and based my original opinion on him being a waiver addition.

Agreed. Hopefully we also (eventually) get Armstead in the mix, and I like our chances as far as the line goes.

I totally agree, he had a monster game, he owned up to the penalty and the teammates had his back after the game. The chemistry is building, accountability is building...remember when BB said one stupid play ruins it for all of us on a Football Life? There are some positive teaching moments made very real here and I choose to think of this circumstance as an opportunity to grow for this team.

Get the next couple of weeks behind our back with a bye and some rest and we will come back stronger.

No doubt...

I understand it is too early make any kind of projections about Chris Jones. So far this kid appears to be the best rookie on the Patriots team. Some of these silly mistakes are going to happen with the rookies, but the good one bounce back (e.g Gronk in his rookie reason catching 4 TD after he fumbled the ball against the Browns that resulted in a loss).

Re: The penalties real downside is it steals the spotlight of a great game by Chris J

I know. I felt bad for the kid. Had a great game and ended up looking like he wanted to cry right there on the field. Don't worry Chris, we were all doing it at home for you...

Jones had a very good college career :

In college, Jones played in 50 games, making 43 consecutive starts at Bowling Green. He was a three-time All-MAC performer with 157 career tackles, 28 sacks, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Jones was named a team captain in 2011 and 2012 and started 13 games as a senior. He finished third in the nation with 12½ sacks that season. He was also named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.

If he can keep this up, his performance overshadows a loss that we'll eventually forget about. Note that Matt Chatham tweeted last week that Jones played well :

Matt Chatham‏@chatham5818 Oct
DL Chris Jones made HUGE plays 4 #Patriots last wk. Openfield tackle on Sproles (3rd&7,2ndQ) was Vince-ish,TFL in 4thQ--superb shed & tackle

After that I asked him if it was just a few flash plays followed by lots of bad ones and he said no :

Matt Chatham‏@chatham5818 Oct
No, was consistent...much improved from when we 1st saw him against ATL. Was solid but unspectacular before, active last week

Re: The penalties real downside is it steals the spotlight of a great game by Chris J

Belichick in his conference call this morning I guess took responsibility for the play saying he got the rule wrong and needed to do a better job understanding the rule and communicating it to his players. Hopefully that takes a little pressure off the kid and helps him move on and keep improving, because he's shown some good promise here in the early going.

Re: The penalties real downside is it steals the spotlight of a great game by Chris J

10 sacks from the Jones' this season.

Chris has looked good as a pass rusher - 3.5 sacks in 4 games/2 starts highlights that. The play Chatham Tweeted about (the Sproles one) also shows his high motor. The Texans/Bucs loss is the Patriots gain on this one if he keeps it up.

Re: The penalties real downside is it steals the spotlight of a great game by Chris J

When Vellano is subbed out for Kelly this line will be greatly improved stopping the run. Haven't looked too deeply but it seems like Vellano is the weak link.

Had more run stops than any other DT in the league yesterday.
