Danny Amendola (hip) tore the adductor muscle; out 3-4 weeks

FWIW (and a big FWIW) my friend knows someone who works for the pats. He said he heard completely tore off the bone and Amendola is done for the year.

No idea how true this is. I suppose we will see if the pats starting looking to sign some receivers the next few days.

If they already made this diagnosis he would have had surgery already (or IR'd). The injury occurred Aug 16th against Tampa Bay. He aggravated the injury Sept 8th against the Bills, but was able to return to the game and play at a high level. They are said to be debating diagnosis of a sports hernia and whether to sit for awhile or do the surgery. This makes sense. Since he already sat for a few weeks and promptly re-injured it, I suspect sitting for a few more weeks would bring the same result. So whatever they decide, I don't expect to see him for at least a month. But I would expect to see him in Nov.

I didn't make up stats. Welker had 9 catches on 11 targets last week, and 3 catches on 8 targets this week, per the ESPN box scores. As a matter of fact, I initially misread the numbers, taking away a catch and target by mistake. That's an error, not 'making it up', and fixing the mistake improves Welker's numbers as opposed to harming them.

I am wrong. I counted wrong. But you know as well as I do one of those catches was not a catch. It was a clear drop, but the refs blew it and Harbaugh did too. But even so, it isn't all that great. He is on pace for his lowest catch total since 2009 and before that 2006.

He had one excellent game as a receiver, and an off game today. That happens to even the best, regardless of position or sport. Your argument is based upon nothing but your own bias, as has become your M.O. these past years.

He had a good game and an off game. His first game was not excellent. Two drops. You take away his drop that counted and he had under 60 yards. He had two TDs, but that is because Manning is a stats padder and always throws on plays inside the 10 even on goalline plays. Even you argued this before. Now Welker is a beneficiary of a stats padding by Manning, he is awesome?

He could turn around and catch everything thrown his way and catch 100 balls, but he had what would be considered an average day here and a subpar day here.

His drops have to be a concern. He led the league with 15 last year and he already has 4 through week 2 (although one is not official).

Again, he would be an upgrade to what the Pats had on Thursday and probably would be better in this offense, but he is showing signs of age especially in his ability to hold onto the ball. To this point, he does not look like the guy who would turn this offense around like he used to. That isn't trashing him. He is still a very good WR, but through the first two weeks he hasn't been great.

so, im confused...the 3-4 week diagnosis seems based on if he needs hernia surgery...but what is the timetable if he doesnt? the article makes it seem like it would be fairly soon...but an "abducter tear" sounds like something that would take more than 2 weeks, or maybe it isnt

enlighten me.

A muscle tear doesn't necessarily mean a complete tear, although it can. If it were completely torn, then that's probably a season-ender. If it's only partially torn, it can be a fairly minor injury.

Torn adductor muscle really makes it sound worse than it is. A torn adductor muscle is what everyone calls a pulled groin. This isn't new news. Journalism at its best. There are 3 grades:

1 - symptoms usually go away within a week
2 - 2-3 weeks
3 - can take up to 6-8 weeks

Really just depends on which he has and how quickly he heals or if there is something else going on (like a sports hernia).

If you've been following this team for long you know we'll have to wait and see.

But Welker had one less drop today than Dobson had on Thursday.

Yes, just being on the field for the next month or so gives Welker an edge. But unless he turns around his drops, you gotta wonder if he was as much the answer for this team as some think.

It was pure luck that Welker's "nobody touched me but my knee blew out anyways" injury happened in Week 17. It equally as likely could have happened in Week 1 (or preseason) and then he'd have missed 15 (or 16) regular season games in a single season.

That's why comparing how many games players missed, absent proper context, is stupid.

Welker is gone it is what it is. the problem now is the new #1 WR has a injury that could be hell for a WR and is going to miss if everything goes right at lest 3 more weeks, I hope Josh McDaniels stops bringing in Former WR's not named Demaryius Thomas

It's ironic to bring up Welker's drops when the Pats receivers routinely drop balls all game as a unit. Fact is they could have had either player for the SAME MONEY and they chose Amendola. Welker went back to the Pats saying here's the number, I'll stay if you match, but they already went with another one of McDaniels' guys. All this is even worse with Brady taking that big pay cut and also the Pats sitting at $13M under the cap. Add Amendola to the list of spectacular rookies, ex-Ram or ex-Bronco acquisitions in the past year:

Greg Salas
Tim Tebow
Brandon Lloyd
Danny Amendola
Michael Hoomanawanui
Kenbrell Thompson
Aaron Dobson
Josh Boyce
Zach Sudfeld

There are going to be a ton of threads on Amendola all the way until he busts and leaves the team a few years from now. This is basically just like all the Laurence Maroney threads from 2006-2009. Another totally overrated, injury-prone player who homers will defend to death.

This thread wouldn't be complete without maverick making this all Josh McDaniels' fault.

It's always the offensive coordinator's fault. ;)

At least NEM was not discriminating. He hated every Patriots OC. maverick04 reserves his hate solely for McDaniels.

19-3, with Wilson playing like crap.

This team has a chance....

Yeah, if only we had the defense of the Seattle Seahawks, coupled with the distinct 12th man crowd noise :)

In the meantime, it may be difficult to hold the SF squad to 3 pts. 17-20 is a possibility though, and that's a step in the right direction as opposed to past years.

Our D is good but not Seattle good

SEA may very well be the best defense in the entire league right now, so no--I'd have to feel positive enough with just the prospect of being in the top 10 to be honest with you. That'd be a nice step both scoring and yardage wise.

Wow. The figure keeps going up. Anybody going to bid $15M or better for the next raise?

Sportsmans hernia is what I'm suffering from.

My doctor keeps suggesting its the adductor muscles causing the problem but physio is arguing its the hernia - therefore no operation in the 7 years I've had the problem. Bloody NHS!!

I had a friend who got the op and was out for 6 weeks (soccer) but says it was the best thing he ever did! I'm still playing with the injury and it limits agility, cutting movements quite a bit but the pain isn't unbearable. Just need a couple weeks off every few months to rest it!

Quite confident Danny Amendola will be back in 4 weeks fit and healthy! How long he'll last before hurting something else remains to be seen!

I can't see how you can tear something AND have sports hernia surgery, and then only be out 4 weeks. I'd be shocked if we see Amendola before week 10.

Man. Its sickening how good this darn defense is.

Pete Carroll.... I wish BB had Pete Carroll's defensive drafting mind and Tom Coughlin's WR drafting mind.

Glass Half full outlook: Welker had more drops than Amendola in game #2.

Glass Half empty outlook: Welker had more catches than Amendola in game #2.
