Patriots 2013 Training Camp (Day Nine, Mon Aug 5)

Yeah. I can remember debating with manx about that over the course of the offseason. No need to worry, man. We all get one wrong from time to time. I'm still waiting for my first wrong assertion about the team, myself. :D
From my perspective, there are a few players on the last year's New England Patriots roster currently attending training camp that I consider dead weight.

Here's some football for you stick-in-the-muds:

It would be interesting to get some perspective on that. How does Tyler Eifert compare for example. Or starting NFL TEs. I suspect that TE's generally convert a lot of their receptions into first downs or TDs just by virtue of the position. Still sounds nice though.

It does, but you made the point yourself. The position alone ensures a lot of first down conversions (being that they generally roam that area of the field) and TD's (being that they're generally the biggest receiving targets on the team, which makes their position optimal in the red zone). Still, I hope he gets some extensive time with the ones in the preseason so we can get a grasp on what he is and isn't able to do against better competition.

Such as...

I know but it would still be a good perspective to get the numbers on the #1 TE.
I've already placed a cautionary optimism on Sudfeld, since he has been named to my 2013 All Glass Team.

Steve Gregory (never a fan of the signing)
Marquice Cole (should never see the field on defense)

I've never been a fan of the Gregory signing either but, at the very least, he's a good depth guy to have should injury strike at the position. Cole is useless on defense, but a solid ST contributer.

I said swelling. The facts say soreness. So you can relax!
Cool. Thx PWP. I like Ballard and this sounds like it may just be shaking the dust off and the trainers being conservative with his early work load.

Duron Harmon - 2012 First Team All-Big East selection at the safety position.

I'm a little surprised that no other effort has been made to give Gostkowski competition at the kicker position.

Gregory provides nice dept, he just shouldn't be a starter. He had some really nice games. Cole is an excellent special teamer. Do you want Slater cut too?

If we had someone with potential upside at receiver that could also fill his role on special teams than absolutely. However, since that isn't the case I have no desire to see him go.

He could very well turn out to be the next Ronnie Lott. That said, he hasn't even so much as played a snap in the NFL yet. Gregory has and we at least know that he can be a valuable depth guy.

We all have our preferences.
