Report: Gronkowski May Require Back Surgery

Ok, earlier when Gronk was looking at a 4th or 5th surgery on the arm, and the Pats failed to sign any decent FA receivers, I predicted 9-7 and got blasted. Now I'm going to go with 8-8 or 7-9. See ya'll in December and I'll gladly eat crow if wrong.

Seriously, would anyone really be super concerned about this if we still had Welker and ONE, just one, decent (and proven) wideout on this team?

Sorry, but BB has egg all over his face at the moment. BB is smart though, so I'm going to have to go with that arrogant little pr**K McDaniels in terms of blame for the fiasco that very well could be the 2013 season. Never seemed like McD or Welker had much repoire after Joshie came back, and I would bet that Welker, being who he is, didn't give all that much respect to McD--hence what is starting to look like one of the most boneheaded decisions in the history of the NFL in letting Welker go.

Chronic back pain is never a good thing. I had a severely pulled muscle in my back and could barely move for two days. I couldn't even imagine disc issues. I hope Schefter's report is the more true of the two, and I would put my stock in his sources more than anyone else, but you never know.

You herniate discs...one leg is shorter, nerves get pinched. It sucks. Ass.

Back surgery isn't a for sure fix either. Hardly it ever is.

my back is a mess. I have multiple bulging discs. ive had many epidural injections. none relieve the pain for very long. im trying to avoid surgery. and like you said surgery is no guarantee to fix the problem. I can only imagine what is back will be like when hes my age when hes already having issues in his mid twenties. if you aren't worried about gronks career you should be.

Yep. Epidurals only mask the pain temporarily. Hydrocodone is addictive and levels off after a while.

The Pats knew that Gronk had past back problems though. It was a calculated risk. Even more so with the extention. Gronk is one tough SOB though.

common, how many are they?!

To the people who say we should trade Gronk.... are you crazy, he is argubly one of the best tightends ever.... and if it wasnt for a 2 fluke injuries we wouldnt be talking. but yeah lets trade gronk for some draft picks who wont mount to ******. SMH

If you really believe what you wrote, you have a golden opportunity to make a lot of money. The line in Vegas is 11.5 wins. I can remember that when Brady was injured, somehow the Pats with a second string qB and the same incompetent HC and OC they have now won 11 games. Of course, you must think that a slot receiver whose agent cost him his job with the Pats is more important than a HOF QB. I disagree.

Probably not too early to start thinking about how you'd like it cooked.

Rob Gronkowski will never play an entire NFL season for the rest of his career, however long or short that may be. We must accept this reality!

This is certainly possible. It is also possible that you could get a gigantic hideous festering boil on your neck. We all hope that doesn't happen, but it is possible.

Since Gronk--magnificent FB player that he is--seems to be the ultimate Alfred E. Newman; his response makes me worry even more.

Like I said Ill worry when October November rolls along and he isnt out there. Worrying about football in may is just plain silly. Even if Gronk isnt back we are used to playing without him and life will go on.

Lol shutup Welker is gone, and is never, ever coming back so get over it. 2. Amendola is going to surprise you. 3. Go root for the Jets.

The guys in those videos take years of training on that specific issue. The two are hardly comparable.

As for your question, it was already asked and answered. But one more time, it wasn't stupid, it was a natural reflex.

It doesn't take years of training, what are you basing that on? I've seen guys get very good at breakfalls in a few months while also training other stuff. Learning to roll is something one does as a beginner in Judo and Aikido.

Wasn't Gonkowski's injury history the reason Jake Ballard was pilfered from the Giants?

That kinda goes hand in hand with the quality of posters on this forum which goes from excellent and very knowledgeable posters to the biggest whiny crybaby, worry about everything, losers.

Its one thing to be a fanatic (like I am) and to question management (which I have) but it so painfully obvious that some here either have zero lives, are miserable and just projecting here or have accomplished nothing in their lives and feel that they have to live their life though a football team.

Guys, hopefully 87 will be fine. My question is its one thing to be concerned, but to worry and whine about it seems like an awful waste of emotion and energy particularly since:

1. There is nothing you can do about it.
2. I am sure the Pats FO and 87 himself want him to be 100% and are using all of their resources available to make it happen.
3. You will still be a fan of the team regardless of the outcome
4. They won before 87 and will hopefully win during and after.

Just shut up already. Go focus on your lives and stop worrying about every little thing and making snide remarks about every thing possible. Its like some here thrive on misrable news and negativity.

Got a fuxxing life!

Fair enough, though I doubt they teach beginners how to roll while diving to catch a pass and trying to stay in bounds. :)

I'm just not going to agree with you on this one. Go watch an NFL game and see how often guys stick their arms out. If you want to say he made a mistake, fine. But an instinctive, natural response is not a bad decision.

I agree that the quality of posts is pretty low on this thread, and in general at this time of year.

But folks are just frustrated. Arguably, we have lost a super bowl and a playoff game because Gronk wasn't healthy, so we did "win" before Gronk (as you say), but are much better with him. Folks are also frustrated with the WR situation. This is even more serious when we see Gronk needing yet another surgery. After all, the story was that the TE's would make up for the lack of Welker and Lloyd. And yes, the story was that we should not be concerned with Gronk's injuries. Make no mistake, 5 surgeries in 6 months takes a toll on maintaining a NFL conditioned body.

Of course, what we really need is for Gronk to be there at 100% for the last part of the year and for the playoffs. We can hope that Hernandez, Ballard and Fells are healthy early. Of course, each of them also has injury histories.
