RFA WR Danario Alexander

Re: RFA WR Danario Alexander!!

Here's a thought, why not just trade for him? As of now the Chargers would get no compensation with the lowest tender, they just have right of refusal. So facilitate the move by offering a 7th and sign him to a cap friendly long term deal. We might be getting our next Welker-like bargain here!

Remember that the Pats could have offer sheeted Welker at the cost of a 2nd rounder but instead negotiated a trade with the Dolphins for a 2nd and 7th so that they could sign Welker directly to the contract that THEY WANTED.

You must admit that Welker vastly outperformed the initial contract that they gave him and was an absolute bargain for the money. DA could be version 2.0 of this? If that's the case, paying a 7th for the right to negotiate such a deal is well worth it.

That's not the way it happened, my friend.

The Fish were already entitled to a 2nd Rounder ~ if they chose ~ by dint of our having signed'm to an Offer Sheet.

The Patriots signed Welker to an Offer Sheet and then, while the Fish were mulling over their Options, the Patriots offered to up the Ante ~ which was the 2nd Rounder you mentioned ~ by throwing in a 7th Rounder.

You cannot "trade" the Exclusive Rights, after the MidSeason Trading DeadLine.

I like the way you're thinking, though: Innovative. ;)

Re: RFA WR Danario Alexander!!

Let me see if I've got this right....

People are screaming about signing Welker because he might get hurt, or decline, and not live up to his deal. However, it's perfectly fine to get into a contract writing contest with the Chargers over a player who's knee has been cut into more often than a 3 pound steak?

Wait. You cut your 3lb steaks less than 5 times?!

I guess spewing out all the hyperbole over the years has given you a detatchable jaw.. ;)

Danario Alexander: the big, fast WR the Pats seek, and he is hiding in the weeds?

Danario Alexander is 6'5" and 217lbs. He has been timed at 4.41. He placed first in the per-play efficiency rankings among receivers for both Football Outsiders and Pro Football Focus in 2012. He caught all 37 of his 2012 passes for 657 yards and 7 touchdowns in November and December. Wes Welker had 6 TD's in a full season. Lloyd had 4 TDs in a full season. Before he reached the NFL Alexander had had five knee operations and all seems to be fine. That dropped his Draft status. But he is only 25.

The Chargers overplayed their hand and put a non-compensation tender on him hoping to slide him through. Many feel they were stupid.

As a senior at MO., he started all 13 games (including the 2009 Texas Bowl), and finished with 113 receptions for an NCAA best 1,781 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 15.8 yards per reception and 137 yards per game. He was named a 2009 Sports Illustrated first team All American.

Josh should have familiarity with him from St. Louis whether he can get the Pats system or not.

Are the Pats playing coy?

Look at this You Tube. I see speed, I see cuts, I see balance, I see catching in traffic. I see some "Moss-esque" things that some of the smurfs we are considering don't bring to the table.

Danario Alexander Highlights 2012-2013 (Chargers only) - YouTube

He had great production in college injuries or not. He is fine now. BB took a medical shot with Gronk as a win and Tate as a loss. I think this guy would flourish here. Look at his other Team mates that have production. You can't single this kid. Let's put it this way Cousins ....Do you want him or Slater to stretch the field and get open for a surprise or a "must have" bomb?

Many feel the Chargers had brain fade but will attempt to match. I think we can get this guy. We have about the same CAP space as they do remaining. Does $2.5m buy him?

Chargers WR Danario Alexander receives low RFA tender, might be a major bargain

I like the size, but I can't tell you I know anything about the guy beyond the video and your post.

Too bad his knees are like linguine.

I'm against it because were he here I couldn't use the DA abbreviation and save valuable time posting

Rams Cuts: Big-play WR Danario Alexander among 14 waived - CBSSports.com
The persistent leg injuries that have plagued wide receiver Danario Alexander led to him being waived Monday among 14 Rams roster cuts.

There were no surprises. The Rams gave Alexander, a fan favorite who starred at Missouri, an injury settlement.

That doesn't seem so fine to me.

The Chargers overplayed their hand and put a non-compensation tender on him hoping to slide him through. Many feel they were stupid.

Those many apparently don't include any of the other 31 NFL teams.

Obviously the knee and hamstring issues are a concern, but considering what the Pats would (and would not) have to give up, going after him would appear to be a smart move. The Pats would not have to give up any draft picks, and he could be had for a relatively modest contract. He played exceptionally well once he had an opportunity last year with the Chargers.

It wouldn't be a bad thing to take a chance on this guy, I'm all for it. I like him better than Donald Jones.

Unfortunately, the patriots seem to only go after short, slow, limited athletically type wide receivers. Alexander would easily be the best WR on our team. Right now, we have the worst WR corps in the NFL.

SOLD! Thanks for giving me my big WR binky. Hey, he wouldn't be the only injury risk we'd be taking. But at the price we'd want to pay, I doubt SD would let him go. I worry that in the end all we'd be doing would to set the market for the Chargers, and after a week of furious commentary here, we'd be setting ourselves up for disappointment.

That being said, let go get this kid.

I'll pass on the speed receiver with recurring leg problems, thanks.

Oh sure, let's go after a much shorter, slower, even more injury prone guy in danny amendola

Not really the same. Amendola 1) Doesn't depend on speed to be successful, and 2) Has suffered non-chronic injuries -- Elbow, tricep, collarbone.

Alexander is a pure speed guy who's had about 7 surgeries on knees and feet as well as hamstring issues. In what universe is Amenodola "even more injury prone"? Alexander might be the most injury-prone player in the NFL. I don't know how the flag could be redder. He's a definite last-resort guy to me.

if we go after danario we should take a flier on austin collie, i heard he might get cleared from his 48 concussions this year.
