Tourched? By an angel or something?

Peter Pat, don't you fret!
Peter Pat, Peytie won't get
That many yards against our guys
We'll have a W 'neath October skies!

Gut laughed.

Do you really need to make the topic so pessimistic?
It makes visiting opposing lurkers think we're all ready to jump off a cliff.

I expect Manning to throw at least 2 interceptions, maybe 3. I expect Wilfork to routinely collapse the center of Manning's pocket forcing him outside where he isn't going to perform well. I expect Jones to get to him, Mayo to get to him, and ... :) .... hopefully Spikes.

I expect Manning to spend a lot of his day running for his life or dumping the ball off to their running back, or throwing quick passes to the outside that will get stopped right away.

We're going to be all over Manning.

I think this game gets out of hand by the 3rd quarter with a very decisive Patriot win that puts New England back on the map as a dangerous Superbowl contender.

I don't see us getting torched at all. If anyone should be worried about getting torched, it's Denver.

You do remember last year right?

It's just Manning in disguise looking for some love from Pats fans. See you on Sunday, Peyton...er Peter Pat.

As bad as Joe Flacco, a few SUndays ago? Will an injured, with less arm strength manning, throw for close to 400 yards?.

My guess Peyton ends up 380 yards 3 TDs, 0 Ints.

The Pats still could win, cause I see Brady and Company scoring also, but I hate to see the Pats secondary get shredded, abused, and embarrassed, yet again.

Its been the on going nightmare for 4 years now, the people change, the Pats keep screwing up draft picks spent on the secondary (Dowling?), and the results have not changed since 2008. (the year when Samuel bolted, and Harrison retired)

I have no faith that they can slow down Denver's passing attack at all.
Then don't watch the game. Just bet the game, take the 7points and go drinking.

Is there any point at all to this thread? Is there any reason for it to exist, ie anything that you wish to actually discuss, or do you just like complaining about stuff to strangers on the internet?

Have to look at these type of evaluations in some sort of context:

- Anyone have a problem with the pass defense against the Titans? Nope.

- The Cardinals? They had exactly 2 drives longer than 29 yards.

- The Ravens game on the road wasn't good. You do have to consider that the "refs" call 25 penalties (most of them bogus) and missed 25 more (most of them OL holding). Definitely count this one in the negative category (particularly those 2 passes and PI on the last drive) but there are enough mitigating circumstances that I'm not sweating this one too much.

- Against the Bills, the pass defense was doing just fine until the offense/ST crapped themselves on 4 straight drives in the 2nd quarter. The long TD in the 3rd quarter was covered well except for Chung channeling his inner James Sanders (aka Mr. Magoo). The other TD in the 4th quarter was when the game was well in hand and the Pats were willing to trade points for time...and since Ebner was the one blowing the coverage on the TD pass, I'm not going to get too upset.

Outside of the Ravens game, where is the problem with the pass defense? And in the Ravens game, both teams had issues with how the game was officiated. I'm not saying the Pats are shutdown, but they certainly aren't inept. My main observation is that (unlike past years) Belichick has the talent to coach the team up significantly as the year progresses. If Dowling and/or Dennard can step up this year (and I have a hard time thinking both are just going to burn roster spots until February), Pryor can muck in with the interior rush at some point, Chandler and Hightower develop enough to be used in more "exotic" schemes and Wilson continues to show a nose for the ball...the Pats could be much better by Christmas then they looked around Labor Day.

With Koppen at center, the Broncos are going to be forced to give him help against Love and Wilfork. That will result in either the DEs being left 1 on 1 against the tackles or the Broncos having to keep Tamme in to block. If the DEs are left 1 on 1, the the Pats will get a lot of pressure on Manning. And pressure on Manning means sacks or interceptions. If the Broncos keep Tamme in, then the Pats will be 7 on 4 and have a decisive advantage in the pass protection.

Agreed... going to be a shoot-out. How many years is it going to take before we have some sort of pass defense? Every single year, same old thing... so brutal to watch.

Well since Ninkovich will be playing a lot, Manning will certainly have all day to throw.

Like the old Steppenwolf song says.....We'll stick our heads into the sand, just pretend that all is grand, and hope that everything works out OK.

The Pats pass defense has made the great stride of 13 less passing yards per game so far this year. The pass rush is on pace to make a whopping 28 sacks this year.

For those of that think the pass defense is just fine, please get your head out of the sand.

And let's not forget Manning is a choker who can't play football if he's outside his Indy Dome.
What bullcrap. Didn't he win a SB in the rain? Did he throw all 49 TDs in the dome against last place teams?

If Manning choked in 2003 then Brady choked in 2009. Same idiotic logic and it doesn't work in either case.

They are not impressive, they are not Seattle, but I see better personnel than last year and possibilities for them to get it together.

I don't care how many sacks they get. I want to see hurries. They are not getting that job done too well yet either but obviously there is upside with Jones and Hightower that will pay off eventually. Eventually there will be a game where they can't double Jones and some S will HTF. I'd say that when your team sports Dan Koppen at center you may be facing one such game. And one good game changes a lot of stats this early in the season.

Yes because we all know that the 1st four games of the season are guaranteed to tell you exactly how good a team is going to be by the end of the year. It's a mathematical imperative, right?

You can be all whiny and cover your eyes and just look at stats, but they never tell the whole story. Especially when you just cherry pick the ones you want while ignoring other things. Like the team is "on pace" to have as many interceptions as they did last year. Or that they are "on pace" to give up 37 fewer passing 1st downs than last year.

The Pass defense is a work in progress and has shown improvements. Most people understand that.

Then don't watch. Switch teams and root for someone else..

The Patriots have a pass defense. Just because people like yourself, bassman and the person who started this ridiculous thread want to hold garbage time yards over the Pats head as if they mean something doesn't make it reality.

Manning threw more than 2/3s of the 49TDs inside Domes. Fact is that Manning is not nearly as good a QB in weather as he is in the dome.

Sorry that facts like that hurt.
