As bad as Joe Flacco, a few SUndays ago? Will an injured, with less arm strength manning, throw for close to 400 yards?.

My guess Peyton ends up 380 yards 3 TDs, 0 Ints.

The Pats still could win, cause I see Brady and Company scoring also, but I hate to see the Pats secondary get shredded, abused, and embarrassed, yet again.

Its been the on going nightmare for 4 years now, the people change, the Pats keep screwing up draft picks spent on the secondary (Dowling?), and the results have not changed since 2008. (the year when Samuel bolted, and Harrison retired)

I have no faith that they can slow down Denver's passing attack at all.

When you play against QBs like Brees,Peyton,Rodgers or Brady winning is all that matters even if its by a single point, these are Elite QBs they are expected to torch the opposing defense.......

I think you are overly pessimistic regardless, but also consider it's going to be a rainy day.

I don't think the Pats pass defense has been that atrocious this season. Six interceptions in four games, along with a handful of QB fumbles. If the Pats can come out and stop the run early on, it could be a tough day for #18. Really the only time the Pats got torched was against Flacco (the refs notwithstanding), and that was after Ray Rice ran wild and dictated our defensive schemes. I would also argue that the Ravens vertical passing game is a bad matchup for the Pats D (much like the Giants).

Considering the Pats absolutely murdered the Broncos twice last year, scoring nearly 100 points to in two games, I think it's the Broncos that should be more worried about how to stop Brady.

It's gonna be horrible, so horrible that you shouldn't watch the game. Actually, it's gonna be so bad that you should probably start rooting on a different team.

Do you really need to make the topic so pessimistic?
It makes visiting opposing lurkers think we're all ready to jump off a cliff.

I expect Manning to throw at least 2 interceptions, maybe 3. I expect Wilfork to routinely collapse the center of Manning's pocket forcing him outside where he isn't going to perform well. I expect Jones to get to him, Mayo to get to him, and ... :) .... hopefully Spikes.

I expect Manning to spend a lot of his day running for his life or dumping the ball off to their running back, or throwing quick passes to the outside that will get stopped right away.

We're going to be all over Manning.

I think this game gets out of hand by the 3rd quarter with a very decisive Patriot win that puts New England back on the map as a dangerous Superbowl contender.

I don't see us getting torched at all. If anyone should be worried about getting torched, it's Denver.

You do remember last year right?

    Disable Jersey

The weather is supposed to be cold for this time of year (40s) and rainy, with the possibility of some wind. That bodes well for the sort of defense the Patriots tend to play in the secondary (back deeper, set to avoid big plays and to react to mistakes), and it should have some impact on Manning's wobbly throws. That Broncos offensive line has also been suspect and will be featuring a new center (Koppen), which could mean pressure on Manning without having to resort to the blitz.

On the other hand, the Patriots "improved" defense is still second worst in the NFL at allowing plays of 20+ yards and the safety position looks as if it may be understaffed and with a new starter.

The Broncos could put up 3 points and they could put up 43 points. Neither would surprise me overmuch.

And let's not forget Manning is a choker who can't play football if he's outside his Indy Dome. If it's cold and miserable he's going to have a long day, on top of the media pressure he'll have to perform against his old rival.

We're going to see Manning pouting on the sideline, just like old times.

Assuming the real refs don't morph into the replacement refs and extend half the drives on bogus calls I think the defense will do fine against Manning given the projected weather conditions.

So, seeing this I went back to see how many times (if any), the Patriots have allowed more than 40 points under Belichick. I was surprised to find that the only two times it's happened were both in 2005. You'd think with the rough defenses of 2000, 2002, and the last three or four years, it would have been mixed into one of those years.

For anyone curious, the last time it happened was Tedy Bruschi's second game back from the stroke against... Peyton Manning and the Colts.

Peyton will have a good day, as he does most games so that is not unique to the Patriots..

Conversely, I expect the Patriots to score more... all that matters in the end is who gets the W, the rest is just fluff...

Said it on another message board earlier in the week - Peyton will throw 5 picks and fumble the ball once too.

It's not like facing Brees, Rodgers, Big Ben, or maybe even the other Manning, but it will be one of the bigger tests for the secondary this regular season.

We didn't fare too well against Flacco, yes the refs had a bit to do with it but still it wasn't encouraging. The other games were against subpar QB's so despite some pretty good performances I remain cautiously optimistic. We lucked out again in that Manning and Shaub are really the only above average QB's left on the schedule this year, with Flacco making it a grand total of 3. And none of the truly elite QB's. I think it's going to be hard to gauge just how well our pass D is until the playoffs unfortunately.
