I think people should look at the Pats in a different light from the yankees, who basically outbids other teams for the services of star players. That the Pats maintain their competitiveness through the years despite the NFL salary Cap and the rash of injuries is admirable. This one is definitely satirical, and not all that bad either.

But I suspect it is underpinned to some extent by a desire for a "new story". The media always want something different to write about and for them Brady/Belichick is just more of the same.

A lot of "neutral" fans feel the same way too. I've surfed though a few fan sites this morning to take the temperature of the rest of the league and there's a lot of Patriot-fatigue out there. The most Patriots-positive sites I visited were the 49ers and the Seahawks (although there are a few fans starting to panic about Brady matching Joe Montana's four SBs although by and large the 9ers fans seem more even-handed and fair than any others).

Packers are pretty anti and even the in-built hatred that Titans fans have for the Colts seems to have been overcome by a desire to see something different. I deliberately avoided sites where teams come with a taken-as-read Pats grudge.

One thing that stands out though is that the majority of opinion is that the LT stuff reflects much worse on the Chargers than it does the Pats and that Shwan Merriman does not have many fans (any?) in the league outside of SD.

Interesting that,in general, the Pats are being viewed this way. I see them as anything BUT boring! They're a thing of beauty out there,probably the only true "professional football team" in the league and it's not as if they romped through the Chargers. That game was one of the most exciting playoff events the sports world has witnessed in a long time.
That said,everyone hated the Cowboys,too. All they did was win,nobody had a snowball's chance in hell of beating them,SB's were a snooze,and quite frankly I was jealous.

The guy who wrote the article to me hasn't watched the patriots the last 6 years. And I'm getting sick and tired of hearing that the Charger's game was handed to us. Yes, the flaming Chargers made lots of mistakes and turnovers but people other than Pat fans forget that the Pats had to capitalize on those turnovers. They didn't hand the Pats the points. The Pats had to earn them. The whole article makes me sick and I wish it was Monday so I can hear the Colt fans winning.

That said, who cares? Journalists tear down political leaders just because they get bored of covering the same story, why wouldn't they do the same with sports teams?

The Patriots are a sports journalist's worst nightmare. They never get arrested, they never talk trash about opponents ... in fact, they never say *anything*. They don't play an easily-understood style of play (like a penetrating defense, or a Colts-like passing offense, or a grinding running game). "Game plan offense" isn't a story-line you can hang your hat on.

All of those things makes them endlessly fascinating and rootable to me. But not very interesting (or, more to the point, easy) to cover for a journalist who only wants the sizzle. So they blather on about how "boring" they are ...
