just another opinion .all thes guys somehow end up criticizing his dressing sense for no reason....
iam sure BB does this on purpose to piss people off

On the surface, it may not seem that important. But it is. If the New England Patriots defeat the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC championship game on Sunday, it will unleash a wave of boredom and annoyance that could reach biblical proportions. Men and women alike will gaze at their TV screens and groan, “Not again!” Youngsters will liken it to getting liverwurst sandwiches every day for lunch. Scholars will observe that Bill Belichick maintained an iron grip on power, the longevity of which is rivaled only by that of Fidel Castro.

I like that paragaph for some reason. As for everything else... :violent:

The more people who speak out against the Pats, the easier it is for BB to keep the team motivated. Keep 'em coming I say.

That was hillarious.

Upon further review, Ventre has to be a Jets fan. Has to be.

What do people have against the Pats-Panthers Super Bowl? Not enough fireworks for ya? Sheesh.

That was pretty funny. And now, for stupidity:

I can't believe this guy got paid for writing this drivel. It sounds like he is trying to convince himself.

I think people should look at the Pats in a different light from the yankees, who basically outbids other teams for the services of star players. That the Pats maintain their competitiveness through the years despite the NFL salary Cap and the rash of injuries is admirable. It is very exciting to look at the Pats every year, how they seem to overcome the odds. Go Pats:rocker:

This is a very funny article. If you take any of this seriously, you need a humor transplant!:D

"Don’t forget, too, that aside from Brady and Belichick, the rest of the Patriots make minimum wage or thereabouts. That’s why so many of them leave to go to other teams. They’re the Northern Marianas sweatshop of the NFL. Season-ticket holders not only get access to exhibition, regular-season and playoff games, they also get garments at cost. I understand the Patriots’ defensive backs coach is a 10-year-old boy named Eduardo."

The last thing sports fans need is Patriots coach Bill Belichick guiding his team to another Super Bowl title, writes MSNBC.com's Michael Ventre.

Another reason to not like MSNBC.

Whew! For a moment there, I thought he was going to invoke Methuselah!

This one is definitely satirical, and not all that bad either.

But I suspect it is underpinned to some extent by a desire for a "new story". The media always want something different to write about and for them Brady/Belichick is just more of the same.

A lot of "neutral" fans feel the same way too. I've surfed though a few fan sites this morning to take the temperature of the rest of the league and there's a lot of Patriot-fatigue out there. The most Patriots-positive sites I visited were the 49ers and the Seahawks (although there are a few fans starting to panic about Brady matching Joe Montana's four SBs although by and large the 9ers fans seem more even-handed and fair than any others).

Packers are pretty anti and even the in-built hatred that Titans fans have for the Colts seems to have been overcome by a desire to see something different. I deliberately avoided sites where teams come with a taken-as-read Pats grudge.

One thing that stands out though is that the majority of opinion is that the LT stuff reflects much worse on the Chargers than it does the Pats and that Shwan Merriman does not have many fans (any?) in the league outside of SD.

Great news and keep it coming........This only helps the drive......

Ventre majored in creative writing; journalism was his elective.

The Redskins site was pretty anti-Patriot as well.

Pretty easy to pin that on jealousy, LOL. What those fans wouldn't do for a tenth of our success.

i liked the article. a few thoughts:

this guy has zero chance of ever working at ESPN after this bit, "But that isn’t the problem here. Even though they may have swaggered and strutted after that hotly contested playoff game, the Patriots aren’t known as obnoxious woofers. For the most part, they’re classy and reserved."

for some reason i really liked the bit about the 10-yr-old DB coach named Eduardo

I like the Brady-Willis comparison. I don't know if there's a single actor I'd rather have my QB compared to.

A big dig joke? Can't we get a referendum on those?

I LOVE this:
"it’s more about their entertainment value, or lack thereof. They’re efficient, like an assembly line. They’re reliable, like the Volvo the neighbors have had for 15 years. They’re predictable, like yams on Thanksgiving."

And don’t forget that if the Patriots actually win the Super Bowl, then Belichick will be asked to say a few words. This will extend an already interminable telecast because everyone will have to wait around for the voice analysis experts to determine what he said. Belichick’s unique combination of mumbles, grunts and intermittent clichés also threaten to put an entire planet to sleep, although they do succeed in exciting some researchers in the field of primate communication."

 Priceless!
Interesting that,in general, the Pats are being viewed this way. I see them as anything BUT boring! They're a thing of beauty out there, probably the only true "professional football team" in the league and it's not as if they romped through the Chargers. That game was one of the most exciting playoff events the sports world has witnessed in a long time.
That said, everyone hated the Cowboys, too. All they did was win, nobody had a snowball's chance in hell of beating them,SB's were a snooze, and quite frankly I was jealous.

couldn't agree more, I would argue the exact opposite of what this guy is saying....what a dingus...

The guy who wrote the article to me hasn't watched the patriots the last 6 years. And I'm getting sick and tired of hearing that the Charger's game was handed to us. Yes, the flaming Chargers made lots of mistakes and turnovers but people other than Pat fans forget that the Pats had to capitalize on those turnovers. They didn't hand the Pats the points. The Pats had to earn them. The whole article makes me sick and I wish it was Monday so I can hear the Colt fans winning.

Sheesh, can't a guy write a satirical article anymore? I'm pretty sure he's making fun off all the anti-Pats hysteria, not participating in it.

That said, who cares? Journalists tear down political leaders just because they get bored of covering the same story, why wouldn't they do the same with sports teams?

The Patriots are a sports journalist's worst nightmare. They never get arrested, they never talk trash about opponents ... in fact, they never say *anything*. They don't play an easily-understood style of play (like a penetrating defense, or a Colts-like passing offense, or a grinding running game). "Game plan offense" isn't a story-line you can hang your hat on.

All of those things makes them endlessly fascinating and rootable to me. But not very interesting (or, more to the point, easy) to cover for a journalist who only wants the sizzle. So they blather on about how "boring" they are ...
