Re: Adams released

No surprise here, as he was awful.

He was singularly awful without even a qualifier or two? No 'he showed some promise on a couple of plays' or 'he was in on a lot of snaps and sometimes kept his receiver contained'?

Re: Adams released

he got out played by a QB that was picked in the 7th round nuff said

Re: Adams released

Bedard's offering the first speculation on the cut that I've seen from the media:

@rhettmc51: what did Phillip Adams do to get cut?

IDK but he got turned around on 2 plays in 3rd quarter and at next TO Edelman replaced RT

Signing Terrell Owens & the release of Chad Ochocinco :rocker:

Re: Adams released

I imagine from the twits and tweets, that his focus was less than 100% which will not cut it for a low upside player. I still think Molden is awkward, but he apparently works at it and has a size speed combo. We are talking backup to a backup here. I believe we still have a couple CBs on the practice squad, so we'll see.

Hope for health.

Re: Adams released

Absolutely silly move.......
Ridiculous........
this is not a "In Bill We Trust" move......

Silly, ridiculous and a reason to not trust BB because he released Philip Adams?? You had to have written that because Adams is a family member/close friend and not because you actually believe it.....you just had to have!

Re: Adams released

In BB i dont trust.
Thats a you problem.

Listen he is a great coach but he has too many responsibilities.I would welcome a new defensive coordinator next year. This defense just stinks!
So you are looking for style points?

You can say well they give up alot of garbage yards but that wont cut it.You need to be able to get stops once the playoffs occur. This offense has to be great in order to win games.
So you have decided the defense just will stop playing well in the playoffs to give yourself the conclusion to your argument?

Re: Adams released

I did not realize Julius was still on the team ... where did they find him :confused3:

Re: Adams released

You know something Carolina doesn't?

He was starting for them and playing really well. Then his infant daughter had heart trouble, was hospitalized and has been in bad condition. he took a leave from football.

Yes, I read that story. I think you are overstating his season in light of the story, though.

Obviously, we all wish the best for his daughter.

This. He was allowing nearly 15 yards per completion and a 156 QB rating against him at one point I remember reading. He was hardly playing "really well".

Re: Adams released

This mean mccourty and chung are back?

Re: Adams released

PLUS! we have Price, Underwood and Slater just waiting to be unleashed on opposition passing attacks.
At least Slater provides value on special teams.

Re: Adams released

Once again, Adams was no All-Pro or anything. He was an average Slot CB who did some good things and some bad things.

But he was still a key player in the improvement on our defense. Fact is he was the best slot corner on the roster by far. McCourty won't ever be in the slot, Arrington is mediocre at that, Molden is just plain terrible, Edelman while he looked good for his first ever defensive snaps is still a short WR who has never covered anyone who could be considered a very good WR and we have a safety, Moore, who played 2 or 3 snaps a CB which hardly inspires good feelings in me.

Fact is we have little to no depth, no one better out there to do the slot corner job and a key player in our secondary (Chung) we can't stay healthy. That is why this move makes no sense. Not because Phillip Adams is the second coming or anything.

I understand your thoughts, and agree on some level.

We have all questioned just about every single move made this yr in the secondary, and this will be no different. For one reason or another, BB felt that we'd be better off by making this move. His talent assessments are usually better than most of ours, so we still have that going for us as fans.

Belichick obviously has a plan and a lot more knowledge of the situation, so I am going to defer to him and hope for the best.

There likely needed to be a roster spot filled, so let's hope that the eventual move made helps us as a team.

Re: Adams released

Moore, who played 2 or 3 snaps a CB which hardly inspires good feelings in me.

If by 2-3 you mean 20-30, then yes. And let's not act like he's never played CB in his life before. He played there in college and I guarantee he's practicing there every week throughout the season.

Fact is, you're making a pretty big deal out of a move on the back end of the roster, and similar to the Bodden scenario, we don't know the whole story.

Re: Adams released

No matter how this season turns out, we will spend much of the off-season trying to figure out the logic of Belichick's transactions in the secondary this season.

Adams had more reps aginst Philly at corner than any corner except Arrington.

He's been our nickel back for several weeks.

How can Adams suddenly not be good enough to be Edelman's backup at nickel back? Molden is McCourty's backup, only getting significant reps if McCourty is out. As another posted, McCourty and Arrington are not playing nickel. Even if Moore were better at nickel than Adams, Moore is needed as the number #3 safety. And all this assumes that McCourty and Chung are back starting.

It seems that there must be more to the story than simply that Adams had moved down the depth chart to #7 or #8 defensive back. Surely, we would keep Adams as the #7 or #8 defensive back if that were the only issue.

ONE POSSIBILITY
Adams has been assured that he will be back (has he cleaned out his locker?). Belichick simply needed the roster spot to try some one out for a few days.

Re: Adams released

I think the logic was, the guy had some natural ability, but probably wasn't focused and disciplined. when you are a 7th round pick, you better be motivated on every play and practice, cause you're just a roster move from oblivion.

My guess, anyway. I'm no scout, but i thought he looked to have some decent ability.
