Odell Thurman

I haven't posted on this before because whenever I came to the site there were numerous surver problems, so this is my first post. I saw Marvin Lewis in his end of the season press conference and he seemed pretty set on cutting Odell Thurman. As a rookie, this guy had over 100 tackles and was playing infront of a pretty weak DL in Cincy. I think if he was very affordable (i.e Seau this past offseason) he could be worth a gamble. He was drafted in the 2nd round because of character issues and probably would've gone first round otherwise...

I know hes got major baggage but obviously we're getting old as hell in the middle with Bruschi and Seau and maybe he would be worth the gamble at the right price....

he got busted a few times for alcohol or drugs or something and then got cut..he had problems coming out of Georgia..thats why he fell to 2nd round

Well, the last headcase Bengal we took didn't turn out so bad. Still, he's relying almost totally on athleticism at this point in his career and Pats linebackers need brains. Oh, and character.

As far as Corey goes, he was considered trouble for a long time, since high school. It's why he wasn't recruited and went to two different junior colleges before UW. Keep in mind, he was "considered" trouble, not necessarily "was" trouble. I watched a biography on him once. Seemed like he was a hard-headed kid that wasn't a bad kid but rubbed the powers-that-be the wrong way by not being a sheep. Even after he tried to play along, his rep preceeded him and the powers most likely just resented him rather than nurtured him. His coach at UW bad-mouthed him to the NFL scouts after he skipped his senior season. His behavior was much like the kid who acts out in class. It's a sign of intelligence/talent/etc neglected by his surroundings.

As far as Thurman goes, if he is cut I think an interview is at least in order. A 24 year old new millionaire, coddled and revered for some time, is a recipe for feeling invincible. Having some drinks and driving home is common everywhere, nevermind if you are in a glamourous situation where it occurs non-stop. He is not a teacher or a pilot. This business is about physical talent, which he has in spades. Bring him in and talk to him. Face to face tells you a lot. Stupid mistakes do not define a person, despite our throwing stones at him. If he is a bonehead, the hell with him. That behaviour should not be condoned. If he is a scapegoat and is ready to be a man, attempt to sign him.

I wanted desperately for the Pats to draft Thurman, but this guy has been IN TROUBLE from the beginning. There is, IMO, no F-ing way the Pats bring this guy in. He's not worth it. He's an LB version of Terry Glenn with a worse track record. No thanks.

He is too small to play for the Patriots at LB, and doesn't seem like a great fit... to put it mildly.

Whilst your reasoning is steadfast, to put it mildly, his talent is exactly what we need. To be contrary, I can't imagine a scenario that he wouldn't come in for an interview.

I registered for this site months ago and the server was never working whenever I wanted to check it out, then gabriel got cut. I was gonna change names but I thought it was kinda funny so I kept it.

As far as Odell, I think Seau/Bruschi could mentor the kid and I'm saying I'd want him because he could play for short $, make a ton of tackles, and be coveted as a free agent a few years later. Its a thought.....

I'd do the same with Chris Henry if Bengals made him available too....

I think our winning culture and attitude guys are so strong here that we can afford to gamble on a few questionable character guys...

Why does everyone seem to think Seau is coming back? He is nearly 40 and destroyed his arm in that injury. Why would he bother?

Thurman was very good at Georgia, I do think that he left after his Jr. year because he was having problems. He got suspended for his sophmore year (played JUCO football) then Richt let him back in 2003, then he suspended him again for the first few games of 2004.

It seems that all of his problems are alcohol related, I bet if he ever found some direction in life, he would be a great player. I doubt that the Pats would bring him in, but maybe, just maybe, Seymour could take his Dawg brother under his wing.

He pretty much sounds like Terry Glenn, who wouldn't want Terry Glenn on this team today? Irvin Fryer, Chris Carter, the list of guys who grew up, stopped partying, and turned their careers around is very long. Certainly worth a shot.
