Just to refute your points with actual statistical analysis instead of your irrational point of view:
Sean Paytons first 2 seasons>>17-15, with 1 playoff victory
Mike Tomlin is one I was referring too when I mentioned 'on one hand,' since he won a Super Bowl in his 2nd season and made the playoffs in the first.
Jim Caldwell>>24-8 with a SB loss and a WC loss, 2 playoff victories, while playing with the best QB (or 2nd best) in the game.
Rex>>>20-12, 4 playoff victories all on the road.
If you think Payton had a more successful first 2 years than Rex then I just question your overall intelligence in general. Also, I don't think anyone with a brain would take Caldwell over Rex. Everyone knows its 'Mannings' team.
So again I'll wait for you to refute my statement, which again you won't be able to do.
This is an incredibly narrow view. And it ignores many factors that punch many holes in your conclusion.
First, if you are basing the HCs job on results (which you are because you are eliminating any HCs without as many wins (more on that later) )then you cannot scapegoat by who the QB is. The QB is not the team.
Secondly your Rex vs Caldwell RESULTS argument is silly too.
Getting to the SB one year and knocked out in the first round the next is better than losing in AFCC twice. The 4 to 3 playoff wins is only because you ignore the Colts earning a bye. The Colts were a more successful team on 09 and 10 than the Jets, and there is no question.
Third, you are claiming success vs every coach in history based upon 2 6th seed playoff berths. For many, many, many years the 6th place team wouldn't even make the playoffs. So you cannot make that comparison to all HCs.
Fourth, earning a 6th seed and losing in the playoffs 2 years in a row is a hollow accomplishment if you never build upon it. It is very reasonable to suggest that last year was the peak, and that the shenanigans he used to get the team to the last playoff spot and having some level of success has diminsihed the chance of future success. No thinking person can believe that if you work for someone who tells the world you are going to win, convinces you that you are better than you are, and then you fall short, there isn't going to be fallout, dissension and loss of respect.
After GUARENTEEING a SB win THIS YEAR what happens to the mentality of this team if they are sitting at 5-8? There will be a tremendous implosion, and the cause of that implosion is the very means to get the moderate success you are giving him so much credit for.
There is a long, long way to go to determine whether Ryan is a quality coach, or a gimmick who had 15 minutes of moderate success.
