Curran: Owners try for another P.R. score

Sports media guy sucks up to players. Sun rises in East.

Frankly I think the lack of appetite for labor news speaks to the ADHD nature of today's sports mediots. Once topics veer out of their comfort zone or become too complex, they want them to be over. They're actually more inclined to be more pro owner than player once the games again commence. Ripping players is second nature to them, and in the NFL the players have made themselves easy pickin's for the most part. On and off the field.

Tom must have missed De's PR snafu last week when he went on WFAN and claimed that the owners had never contributed a cent to retiree pension benefits since nineteen ninety something - when in fact they had contributed $350M in just the last couple of years. I think the owners are now in spin mode to debunk the myth that all the poor players get is money they predictably blow on excessive bling and poor lifestyle choices that leave them destitute because their enslavers didn't provide enough of a safety net for them...

Curran is right on the money, nice job.

I see nothing wrong with the owners reminding the public how much they actually contributed to this fund.

Curran can state that it isnt usual practice all he wants but clearly it has relevancey right now and sure it might be a highly visible PR move to announce it the fact remains that is a lot of money going to players.

Both sides have made public comments that otherwise wouldn't normally be made in order to try and gain public sentiment or at least to not destroy public relations.

Aside from his comment that the owners are playing chess while the players are playing tic-tac-toe...

The NFLPA* is now grappling with how to get the benefit of their lockout war chest to the players without the players having to pay income tax on it since the bulk of the $60K set aside is the result of refunding union dues previously paid and deducted from their taxes...

Probably the reason they have suddenly amended their request to Doty regarding injoining owners from accessing the direct tv money during a lockout in favor of instead being awarded substantial damages...
