Wright to IR

So that's 15 on IR, right?

Of course all we will hear about, from the national perspective, is the Colts having what.... 16?

The season is only 3 games long max now, the rotation doesn't need to be ad deep. In addition, unlike some others I like what I've seem from Cohen.

Here's hoping that Wright has a full recovery.

Sucks about Wright going on the IR, but it's good to know that the team wouldn't push him out onto the field at the possible detriment to his long-term health.

As for the effect on the Pats' D... not that much, actually, considering he's been out the latter half of the season and wasn't part of the defense's renaissance. Brace figures to be the real loss; he's a more solid run stopper than Pryor, his most likely replacement.

As we saw against the Packers, the lack of depth on the d-line can become problematic if the offense gets off to a slow start. If Brady's bunch can come through in the first quarter, and teams are forced to try to hang with us, I think that Belichick will have plenty of options for our defensive front, from using Eric Moore as a 4- or 5-technique DE, to the 2-5/4-3 fronts with Cunningham + Ninkovitch, Wright or TBC in tight as hybrid DE/OLB with Warren and Wilfork the only true down linemen.

If we get into a dogfight, or spend any significant portion of time trailing, though, that's when we'll need Pryor, Ellison or Love to really step up and show us something.

I know the numbers of DLs that wont be available for the playoffs is piling up, but we havent really had any of these guys for quite a while.
It seems a lot worse to think that Wright, Brace and Deaderick are gone than it does to look at how minor all of their contributrions have been for the last month or two.

I wonder if Deaderick is being reinstated after 1 week of suspension, and thats the reason for the move?

That's my hope I'm sure whatever Deaderick did warrants a more meaningful suspension, but at this point we really do need him along the DL.

I thought all reserve lists in the NFL were for the season (else a team could stash players beyond 53 on their roster by "suspending" and "reinstating" them as-needed).

Nah. Spikes was on the same list for the last month. Since the team suspended him and didn't announce a timeframe, it could be for any length of time.

Since I don't believe players on the suspended list get paid, I would imagine using the list as a shadow roster would be problematic.

Edit...And he is back according to Reiss.

It Is What It Is - Analysis of Mike Wright’s move to injured reserve

The loss of Wright hurts on a couple of levels. First, Wright is the team’s best interior pass rusher — in only 10 games, his 5.5 sacks were best on the team. Vince Wilfork has started to emerge as a pass-rushing threat up the middle the last few weeks, but Wright’s ability to get a consistent push up the middle will be hard to replicate.

Second, the loss of Wright will render the depth along the defensive line even thinner. This is a group that is getting great play from the likes of Wilfork and fellow veteran Gerard Warren, but because of injuries to Ty Warren, Ron Brace, Darryl Richard and Kade Weston (who have all gone on injured reserve), as well as injuries to Myron Pryor (who has struggled with a back problem) and a suspension to youngster Brandon Deaderick, they have been forced to acquire players like Landon Cohen, Atiyyah Ellison and Eric Moore in an attempt to add depth. This also means more will be expected of rookie Kyle Love, who has started to play well as of late.

Wright is the 14th New England player to be placed on injured reserve since the start of training camp, a group that includes Warren, cornerback Leigh Bodden, safety Brandon McGowan, offensive linemen Nick Kaczur and Stephen Neal, kicker Stephen Gostkowski and running back Kevin Faulk.

Our down linemen are Wilfork - G. Warren - K. Love
Our only proven backup is M. Pryor if you call him proven. Cohen isn't very good. B.Deaderick better get his act together. We really need him. I'm a worry wort by nature. This won't help things. Great that we have home-field advantage. Shouldn't get tired playing outdoors.

Cohen has been adequate.. He doesn't need to be "very good."

The Colts have like 22..

And there are teams worse than them..

Be well and we hope you mend to enjoy life!

If a non playoff team dumps a player (wink-wink) and we pick them up is that allowed. the wink-wink would be a draft favor down the road.

There is a rule against that. A player's contract for the season is non-transferable when his team's last game is over.

Shi$$y about Wright. He was a valuable piece of the puzzle.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. If the concussion is as bad as it sounds, he should probably evaluate whether or not he wants to continue on with his career. I wish Mr. Wright a full and complete recovery.

The poster you quoted is correct. The Colts have exactly 16 players on IR.

What team do you believe has more then them?

i dont know about you guys but i am extremely concerned about our dline. in the past, our run defense has been so good, i really hope it doesnt kill us in the playoffs

Saw this coming. Wish him all the best, his health matters first and foremost here.

Hope that he recovers. Mike was always the forgotten guy but has been solid and or best pass rusher of the down linemen.

I also hope that he is able to watch the Patriots games all the way to the Super Bowl.
