Actually, looked at the video just now, you guys are right, I was wrong

He said "make a play", not "make um pay"

I am totally against it if he was giving Butler a hard time. Darius has taken enough flack; he does not need to hear it from his own QB. As long as Darius is working hard and improving I do not have a problem; if Butler just does not have the god-given talent to make the play then there is no reason to chide him even more.

What Butler needs is better hand / ball skills. He can run with receivers and he is usually in position (mostly) but he does not make the play. He need to regain his confidence and be gradually worked back into the game. He does not need a rich married-to-a-model fancy-pants QB telling him to make the play.

You can cleary see him say (in a state of shock) "What the f**k just happened?"

Found it on YouTube. Simply awesome.

Dont know the guy at all but he looks like a douchnozzle

i think we dont know the whole context so lets not start overreacting . it may just be that all the pushing and shoving pissed off brady and the pats and he was just yelling to encourage them to not give any more points

Perhaps they could discuss his lack of enthusiasm over some chamomile tea. It might be that Darius is just sensitive and misunderstood.

Probably hurt his feelings to be a second year high draft choice and have your f**king job taken by a UDFA special teamer!

NFL = not for long. if he doesn't want to play, someone will.

I wish Brees could swear sometimes, its just not his character. But its effective, as Brady has proved on occasion.

Yeah, I loved it. It was on a 3rd and long and they got the first down on that play and my guess is that Tommy was pissed we didn't stop them. Maybe he wanted Hoyer to get a few snaps as there was just over 3 minutes on the clock, or maybe he wanted to get back in and score 50 to pay back for those dirty Lions players on the scuffle. I was so sure one or two of their players would get ejected ! Guess the Refs. felt sorry for them losing, again.

I think it's like this everywhere but I do believe there is an extra amount of peer pressure to perform and do your job in Foxboro. Some guys can handle it. Some guys can't.

How much direct flack does anyone here know for a fact he has taken? I agree about the "working hard part" but you can see a bit of lethargy on the part of Butler on that one play alone - let alone on footage we dont see.

I don't know what to make of Butler. I just know that I am very disappointed with what's gone down with him. I really hope he can pull it together soon. The team needs it tremendously. Arrington is not someone you want your team depending on long-term. Man, I sure wish we had Bodden going down the stretch.

I'm confused. I thought Brady wasn't as committed to his football life since he's decided to spend a little time with his family during the offseason. ????? Mayeb we should revisit those threads :)

People are exaggerating here about lethargy. Brady has yelled at a lot of people this year, including at Wes Welker. Wouldn't read too much into it. Butler has, as Belichick stated, needed to carry his consistency from practice to games. He has lost his fundamentals at times. But make no mistake. Darius is not lethargic, he's a very hard worker.

How people forget that Reiss was touting him all offseason as the hardest working and most diligent Patriot. No one remembers this? Butler was spending all day working hard at Foxboro in the offseason.

My read is different from many of you because I watched a lot of him at UConn and I think his play from UConn has carried over to the NFL. My reading is totally opposite most people here.

I think Darius is a playmaker and he has great playmaking ability. That's what he brings to the team. He's more like Terrell Buckley than he is Jonathan Wilhite. I know people see him stride for stride and in position to make a play but failing to, but if he sticks around, I bet you'll see a different side in the future. Darius has always had good ball skills, makes the incredible acrobatic interception, but too often gets lost and bites on receiver moves. He's out of position a lot. This is the exact opposite problem that most people see in him.

I tend to think that Belichick is requiring him to stay more disciplined, to not break down as quickly, because of Darius's tendency to bite on plays. And Darius needs this. He doesn't need to learn to make plays on the ball. That comes naturally to him. But having to stay back to make sure he doesn't bite has caused him to lose aggressiveness this season that he had last year. That's the difference.

It remains to be seen whether he can harness his natural ball abilities by becoming more Asante Samuel than Terrell Buckley. That's exactly what Belichick wants with him. If Belichick wanted, he could have a Terrell Buckley type player on the field tomorrow. But it takes a while to become an Asante Samuel.

There you go. It's the big leagues, you either perform or you're gone. I hope he catches up, but the team will move on with someone else if he doesn't.

Interesting take and I hope you are correct. That said - it is still disconcerting to see Brady make that comment combined with Butler's slow reaction to the play.

Butler was probably like "Did you guys hear that... Tom Brady knows my name!"

If theres one thing we know about Brady is hes very savvy, Im sure he knows when a guy needs a kick in the ***** and when he needs a pat on the *****.

Like I said, Brady has gone after Wes Welker and some of the OLineman.

So... I'm not sure that Brady is doing it to motivate underachievers. I mean, Wes Welker is supposedly the hardest working player on the team.
